Tata Motors to launch Sierra EV and ICE before the end of current fiscal Avinya nameplate will arrive in 2027 Tata Avinya X SUV and Sportback will be based on the EMA architecture Safari likely to get an EV derivative
Tata Motors is looking at the premium SUV category to further boost sales in the highly competitive Indian market. The company plans to launch multiple new premium SUVs over the next two years. Before the end of this financial year, the homegrown passenger vehicle maker will re-introduce its iconic Sierra nameplate as a lifestyle offering.
Tata Motors has already announced its plans to introduce premium electric vehicles. And, the Avinya nameplate will spearhead the brand’s ambition of spreading its presence globally. Moreover, the brand’s flagship 3-row SUV, the Safari, will receive an electric derivative in the future.

The homegrown automaker will launch the long-awaited Sierra in both EV and ICE avatars. The Tata Sierra EV will first launch in October 2025, followed by an ICE derivative in Q1, 2026. The new SUV will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV.
The Tata Sierra will measure around 4.3-4.4 meters in length, making it a direct rival to Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others in the category. The EV will be based on Tata’s new Acti.ev+ architecture as a front-wheel-drive offering; however, the top-spec model could get a dual-motor AWD set-up. It is likely to be offered with two battery choices - 65kWh and 75kWh. We expect the new model to offer a realistic range of around 500km on a single charge.
The Tata Sierra in ICE avatar will be offered with two petrol and a diesel engine. It is reportedly to be offered with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.5L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer. The diesel version is most likely to get a 2.0L turbo unit that powers the Tata Harrier and Safari.

Tata Motors has officially announced to launch Avinya premium electric nameplate in India in 2027. It is likely to be offered in two versions - a 5-seater premium SUV and a sportback. The company will source the EMA platform from JLR to develop these new electric SUVs; however, the platform will be significantly modified and localised to achieve competitive pricing.
Tata Motors will first launch the Avinya Sportback in 2027. It is claimed to offer leading in-cabin experience with next-gen connectivity, ADAS, performance, refinement and safety. The SUV, called the Tata Avinya X is expected to be launched sometime in late 2027 or early 2028. Tata Motors showcased the Avinya X concept at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo.
The Tata Avinya X concept has a three-screen display on the dashboard and a massive fourth screen, which is freestanding and placed lower. Some of the features include a two-spoke steering wheel. V2L and V2V functionality, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, LEVEL-2 ADAS and multi-zone climate control.
Tata Motors has already launched the Harrier electric, and the Safari is the natural choice to get the EV derivative. In fact, the Tata Safari EV was caught testing multiple times on the Indian roads. It is expected to share most of the features, platform and battery choices with the Harrier EV. The new SUV will be a rear-wheel-drive offering; however, the top-spec model will have dual-motor AWD (QWD) set-up.
