Maruti Suzuki leads with over 1.7 lakh units sold Tata and Mahindra hold strong in second and third place Most car brands report solid growth in March 2026
March 2026 turned out to be a strong month for the Indian passenger vehicle market. Most carmakers reported solid growth, both year-on-year and month-on-month, showing steady demand across segments like SUVs, hatchbacks, and electric vehicles.
Maruti Suzuki continued its dominance in the Indian market with sales of 1,72,919 units. The brand saw a strong 28 percent growth year-on-year and held a massive 39.5 percent market share, staying far ahead of its rivals.

Tata Motors secured the second spot with 67,268 units, including EV sales. The company registered a 31 percent growth compared to last year, driven by strong demand across its portfolio.
Mahindra came in third with 61,032 units, posting a 23 percent year-on-year growth. Its SUV lineup continues to attract strong buyer interest.
Hyundai held the fourth position with 48,623 units. The brand recorded an 11 percent annual growth, maintaining steady performance in the market.
Kia India followed closely with 27,987 units, showing a 23 percent growth year-on-year and consistent monthly improvement.
Toyota reported 27,479 units in March 2026. The brand saw 8 percent growth compared to last year, although sales slightly dipped from February.

This group recorded 8,676 units, showing a recovery month-on-month despite a slight yearly decline.
MG Motor India posted 6,233 units, registering 12 percent growth year-on-year and a strong monthly jump.
Honda sold 5,507 units, with a steady 7 percent growth annually and improved month-on-month performance.
Renault clocked 3,588 units, marking a significant 36 percent rise year-on-year, showing signs of recovery.
Nissan reported 2,538 units, with strong growth both yearly and monthly, making it one of the fastest-growing brands in percentage terms.
In the premium space, BMW sold 1,559 units, achieving a 13 percent growth year-on-year.
Mercedes-Benz recorded 1,320 units, seeing a decline of 11 percent compared to last year.
Citroen posted 758 units, showing an impressive 126 percent growth year-on-year, albeit from a lower base.
VinFast continued its early expansion in India with 688 units, gradually building its presence in the EV space.
