Kia Motors is planning to introduce the facelifted Sonet in India soon. Since its launch in 2020, the brand has not given Sonet any updates, till now. The latest leaked pictures have revealed that the subcompact SUV is being tested on Indian roads. We take a closer look.
While the test mule in the spy shots is heavily camouflaged, it does give us a glimpse of some of the changes the Sonet facelift will get. The front end has been thoroughly revised with new LED DRLs that vertically extend down to the updated bumper while the grille sports a different design as well.
Moving to the side, the facelifted Sonet’s profile will stay largely similar to the outgoing model but may get a new alloy wheel design to freshen things up. At the rear, the new Sonet will get redesigned LED taillights with a full-width LED light bar while the bumper will be reworked as well. Kia may also introduce new colour options with the Sonet facelift.
Inside, the Sonet facelift is expected to receive a thoroughly updated cabin. It will get a new 10.25-inch screen setup for the digital instrument console and infotainment system. Key feature additions could be a 360-degree camera system, ADAS features, panoramic sunroof, dash cam, auto climate control and new leatherette upholstery.
Mechanically, Kia is expected to offer the powertrain options in the Sonet facelift as the current model. This includes 1.2-litre N/A petrol, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel. The N/A unit makes 82 bhp with 115 Nm of max torque while the turbo-petrol motor pumps out 120 bhp with 172 Nm of peak torque. Meanwhile, the diesel dishes out 114 bhp with 250 Nm of max torque. Transmission choices of an AMT, a manual, and a torque-converter automatic will be the same as well.
Kia earlier in 2023 had updated the Sonet’s powertrains to meet the new BS6 Phase II emission norms and be E20 fuel compliant.
While Kia is yet to release any details, the Sonet facelift is expected to launch in India by late-2023 or early-2024.
Upon launch, the new Sonet will rival the Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Maruti Brezza, Nissan Magnite, Tata Nexon, and Citroen C3.
