Volkswagen Golf GTi is all set to hit Indian roads by August 2025. Offline bookings for the hot-hatch have already been commenced at select Volkswagen dealership. The VW Golf GTi will serve a niche segment in India, and will be imported as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) in limited number of units. This means the hot-hatch will be priced at a premium around Rs 52 lakh (ex-showroom) to take on the Mini Cooper S.
Visually, it looks compact and sporty. The front fascia has been adorned by the signature grille with ‘VW’ logo in the centre, bumper with the honeycomb mesh pattern and matrix LED headlamps. Design elements such as the 18-inch ‘Richmond’ alloy wheels (along with the optional 19-inch alloys), dual exhaust setup and a diffuser add more to its sporty appearance. It features ‘GTi’ badges on the front grille, fender and tailgate.
The new Volkswagen hot-hatch has all-black sporty theme inside the cabin, complimented by the tartan-clad sports seats and a layered dashboard design. It comes with a 3-spoke steering wheel with ‘GTi’ badge, a GTi-specific fully digital instrument cluster, a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the smartphone connectivity.
Other key features include a wireless phone charger, Harman Kardon premium audio system, USB-C charging ports, HUD (Head-Up Display – optional), ambient lighting, keyless entry and push button start, dual zone automatic climate control, power adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, heated and ventilated front seats, an optional panoramic sunroof, and metallic pedals.
For safety and driver assistance, the hot-hatchback offers a 360 degree camera, automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitoring system, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
Under the hood, the Volkswagen Golf GTi features a 2.0L turbo petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. It delivers power to the front wheels. This setup returns a claimed power of 245PS and 370Nm of torque. The hot-hatch can do 0 to 100kmph in 5.9 seconds and attain a top speed of 250kmph.
