Volkswagen to launch Taigun and Virtus facelifts in 2026 New VW compact SUV launching by mid-2027
In order to improve its sales, Volkswagen is planning to introduce multiple new models, including some of its global products in the Indian market. The company will launch 3 cars, including a new sub-4 meter SUV in the mass-market category. Moreover, Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus sedan will receive mid-life update in the coming months. The company is currently selling close to 3000-3500 units per month, and is aiming to double this number in the next 1-2 years.

Volkswagen has started working on the new compact SUV, which is expected to be launched by mid-2027. It will be the brand’s first model in the hotly contested sub-4 meter category, which is dominated by the likes of the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and others. VW Is expected to adopt a badge-engineering strategy for its upcoming compact SUV. It will be based on the Skoda Kylaq, which is built on the MQB AO IN platform.
The SUV will carry Volkswagen identity, and is expected to get new plastic parts including a new front grille, new bumpers, new headlights and tail-lights. Inside the cabin, the VW compact SUV is expected to get new colour scheme for dashboard, door panels and seats. It is also likely to get the GT Line trims with blacked-out exterior parts. The compact SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 114bhp and 178Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed torque converter automatic.
Volkswagen will launch the new Taigun and Virtus facelift in the country before the end of this year. While the Taigun facelift is scheduled to be launched in Q2, 2026, the Virtus facelift is expected to arrive during festive season before Diwali. Both models will receive subtle design and interior changes along with a longer list of features. The new cars are likely to get a new 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, rear massaging seats, automatic AC, and an electrically adjustable driver’s seat.
The updated models won’t receive LEVEL 2 ADAS tech. Both will continue to be offered with a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.5L, 4-cylinder, turbo petrol. Instead of a 6-speed torque converter automatic, the 1.0L TSI unit will be paired to an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The 1.5L unit will continue to be offered a 7-speed DSG.
