Buoyed by positive response for new breed of cars, Toyota is now planning to launch multiple new cars in the Indian market over the period of next couple of years. The company will add new variants and facelifts of existing models along with all-new cars in its portfolio. Moreover, two all-new SUVs will be launched in the country in 2025.
Toyota will enter the electric vehicle segment with the Urban Cruiser EV. Adding to it, an all-new affordable 7-seater SUV will be launched in the second half of 2025. Lets talk about these two SUVs in detail -
Toyota will launch the Urban Cruiser EV as its first mass-market electric car in the country in 2025. It is based on the Suzuki's e-HEARTECT platform that also underpins the Maruti e Vitara, which is scheduled to make India debut at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. In terms of proportions, the new Urban Cruiser is 4285mm long, 1800mm wide and 1640mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2700mm. The SUV rides on 18-inch wheels; however, the top-spec model gets 19-inch wheels.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV comes with advanced driver assistance system. The ADAS offers pre-collision system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert and lane keep assist. In terms of features, the SUV gets 360-degree surround view camera, 10.25-inch digital driver's display, a 10.1-inch multimedia display, electrically adjustable driver's seat, a JBL premium audio system, and a fixed sunroof.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will come with two battery packs along with single-motor FWD and dual-motor AWD setups. It is offered with a 49kWh battery pack with a front-axle-mounted electric motor, offering an output of 144hp and 189Nm of torque. The higher version will get 61kWh battery pack with FWD and AWD setup. The front-wheel-drive version offers 174hp and 189Nm of torque, while the dual-motor AWD version delivers 184hp and 300Nm of torque. The AWD version will have an additional 48kW motor on the rear axle. The Urban Cruiser EV will be manufactured at Suzuki's Gujarat based manufacturing plant.
Similar to the 7-seater Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder will also receive a 7-seater derivative in 2025. The SUV will ride on a longer wheelbase and will have an additional space for the third-row seats. It will directly rival the Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus. The new SUV will fill the gap between the Hyryder and the Innova Hycross. It is likely to be offered in both 6 and 7-seat layout with the former offering captain seats in the second-row. The SUV could also receive high-end features including ADAS tech.
The 7-seater Hyryder is likely to be offered with the existing 1.5-litre TNGA Atkinson Cycle petrol engine. This engine produces 101.6bhp and 117Nm of torque. It is claimed to offer an ARAI certified fuel economy of 27.97kmpl.
