Kia marked its entry into the compact three-row MPV segment with the Carens in early 2022. Now, as the model approaches its third successful year, it is ready to receive its first midlife update. While the official launch timeline is yet to be revealed, reports suggest that the new Kia Carens facelift will arrive by mid-2025. Its production set to begin in May 2025. Multiple sightings of test mules have provided key insights into the upcoming updates. Here’re the top 5 facts we know so far.
Minimal cosmetic changes are expected to be made to the vehicle. However, the front fascia will receive a refreshing look with a newly designed grille, updated bumper, and headlamps. The MPV might also feature a slightly tweaked rear bumper, adding a touch of modernity to its design.
The interior is set to feature notable upgrades. One of the key highlights will be the addition of the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite, which will be a first in its segment. Additionally, the Carens will also be the first vehicle in its category to offer a 360-degree camera. Kia is expected to make some changes to the dashboard design, enhancing the overall cabin experience.
No changes are expected under the hood. The new Kia Carens facelift will continue to offer the existing 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5L turbo petrol, and 1.5L diesel engines. The naturally aspirated petrol unit generates 115 bhp, while the turbocharged petrol motor delivers 160 bhp. The diesel unit produces a maximum power of 116 bhp. A 6-speed gearbox will remain standard across the model lineup. The turbo-petrol variants will exclusively feature a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, while the diesel models will come equipped with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Reports indicate that Kia will introduce an electric powertrain for the Carens with the midlife update in mid-2025. While details remain scarce, the Carens EV is likely to share its powertrain with the Hyundai Creta EV, scheduled for launch in January 2025. If so, the compact MPV might feature a 45 kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor, offering a range of up to 500 km on a single charge.
The Carens ICE and EV models will be produced at the same manufacturing facility, with the company targeting a production rate of 2,000 electric Carens units per month during the first year.
A minimal price hike is expected for the new Kia Carens facelift, considering the range of updates. The current model is priced between Rs. 10.52 lakh and Rs. 19.94 lakh (ex-showroom).
