Volkswagen’s two top-selling mainstream models, the Taigun SUV and the Virtus midsize sedans, will soon receive a major facelift in the country. Volkswagen Taigun facelift has already been caught testing several times, while Virtus facelift is yet to enter the testing phase.
Volkswagen India is yet to reveal the exact launch timeline for the updated models. It is expected that VW will first launch the Taigun facelift by the end of this year or early next year, followed by the Virtus facelift by mid 2026.
Volkswagen had launched the Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Both models received multiple special editions and new variants in the past 3-4 years. The company now plans to give a mid-life upgrade to these two mainstream models before introducing the next-gen models. Adding to it, VW will also introduce a new sub-4 metre compact SUV based on the upcoming Skoda Kylaq.
Both models will receive cosmetic design and interior changes along with new features. VW will make some sheet metal changes and both cars will come with a heavily revised front fascia. Design upgrades likely to include a revised grille, slightly tweaked headlamp Setup with LED daytime running lamps, and a new lower bumper. The bumper could accommodate a differently styled lower air-dam and fog lamp housing.
Other changes could include new alloy wheels, new rear bumper, and a slightly revised tail-lights. The cabin is also likely to receive cosmetic changes in the form of new trim materials, new colour scheme and a new set of comfort and convenience features.
The Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus facelifts are likely to get panoramic sunroof, as the current cars are offered with a single-pane sunroof. The higher-spec variants could get panoramic sunroof, while the existing sunroof is likely to be offered on select lower variants.
Another big update is the addition of the LEVEL 2 advanced drive assistance system (ADAS), as both models misses out on these safety features. The ADAS features will include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, rear cross traffic alert, auto high beam and others.
Both cars are equipped with a wide range of safety features such as ESC, multi-collision braking, hill hold control, electronic differential lock, traction control system, brake disc wiping and roll over protection, and more slip regulation, six airbags, auto dimming IRVM and a TPMS. Volkswagen is likely to add front parking sensors in the new Taigun and VW Virtus.
The new Taigun and Virtus facelift won’t receive any mechanical changes. Both will continue to be offered with the 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol and the 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engines. While the former is good for 115hp and 178Nm, the 1.5 TSI unit produces 150hp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque converter automatic with 1.0L unit, and a 7-speed DSG with the 1.5L unit.
