Hyundai to launch new Bayon and compact EV by March 2027 Next-gen Creta could debut at 2027 Auto Expo

In a bid to regain lost market share, Hyundai Motor India has announced a massive Rs 45,000 crore investment in the country. The South Korean giant is preparing to launch three new SUVs in the Indian market. From a sporty crossover to a generation shift of its Creta and a mass-market electric challenger, here is everything you need to know about the three upcoming Hyundai SUVs hitting the Indian roads soon.

Hyundai Bayon: Maruti Victoris Challenger

The next-gen Hyundai Bayon will arrive in our market before the end of this financial year. It will sit between the Venue and the Creta, and will directly rival the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. The new SUV is reportedly to measure around 4.2 meters in length, and the spy images reveal a taller, and boxier stance. Its design will be more aligned with Hyundai’s latest “Sensuous Sportiness” language.

Internally codenamed BC4i, the new Bayon SUV is likely to be equipped with a naturally-aspirated petrol engine along with a CNG powertrain with a dual-cylinder setup. It will be the first Hyundai measuring above 4 meters to get a CNG powertrain. The SUV could also get an all-new 1.2L turbo petrol engine, which is currently under development.

Next-gen Creta

2027 Hyundai Creta Spied

The 3rd-generation Hyundai Creta is currently undergoing rigorous testing. Its spy images reveal an upright and boxy silhouette with styling seems inspired by the Hyundai Palisade. The SUV is expected to be launched in the first half of 2027. We believe that Hyundai could present the next-gen Creta at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Global Expo.

The next-gen Hyundai Creta will be based on the K3 platform that also underpins the new Kia Seltos. It will be larger, offer better structural rigidity, longer wheelbase and more cabin. The SUV will feature the new Pleos Connect infotainment system with AI driven voice commands and a more refined LEVEL 2 ADAS tech. The big update is that the Creta will finally debut its Strong Hybrid System, likely to be based on a 1.5L NA engine, to rival the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder hybrids.

Electric Compact SUV (Codenamed HE1i)

Hyundai compact electric SUV

Hyundai will launch an all-new electric compact SUV, codenamed HE1i, in India before the end of this financial year. Likely to be based on the global Inster EV, the new Hyundai EV will be a direct rival to the Tata Nexon EV and MG Windsor EV. The spy images reveal that the compact SUV will have a rugged, upright stance, boxy silhouette, and a pixel-themed LED lighting setup.

The SUV will be designed, engineered and built in India for Indian customers. It will be manufactured at the company’s Sriperumbudur factory in Tamil Nadu. It will source the localised batteries from Exide. The electric SUV could come with standard range and long range versions with an expected range of up to 500km on a single charge.
