Honda India is very aggressive with its approach towards the Indian market. The company is soon going to introduce many new cars in the near future. Actually, the company has already disclosed its seven-year vision and introduced five new models. Among them, three are most expected: three-row SUV, Honda Elevate EV, and subcompact SUV. These will be available with electric, hybrid, and regular petrol powertrains, and therefore the company will cover a wide segment of customer demand.
Here is list of what we can expect to see in the recent Honda lineup:
Honda Elevate EV will be the first all-electric SUV from the brand in India. It will be based on a modified version of the same platform that was seen with the petrol model. The Elevate EV is planned to roll out sometime in 2026 or 2027 under Honda's Asian Compact Electric (ACE) project. It first will hit the Indian markets followed by other markets.
The Elevate EV is expected to be powered with a 50kWh to 60kWh battery and will be supported by an electric motor at the front. This vehicle is going to provide the range of around a single charge about 500 km. The designing of Elevate EV would be different from the normal Elevate because features in the electric vehicle would be especially designed.
The biggest competitors include the likes of Maruti e-Vitara, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, and Mahindra BE 6. Elevate EV will provide good competition with expected price range of Rs. 20 lakh to Rs. 26 lakh being offered. And all these while having an Eco friendly SUV.
Another model with which Honda showcased to its dealer network is its new hybrid variant, Honda ZR-V hybrid. This is a mid-size SUV to look out for as it is based on the already available HR-V in Europe and the US. Under the bonnet, it boasts a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine mated with Honda's e:HEV hybrid technology. This engine alone produces 141 bhp and 186 Nm of torque. With the addition of the electric motor, the power shoots up to 180 bhp, and the torque swells to 315 Nm.
With this powertrain, the ZR-V Hybrid accelerates at just 8 seconds from 0-100 km/h and can be taken as fast as 172 km/h top. This, in turn gives it mileage up to 26 kmpl with absolute fuel efficiency. Its contemporaries with which it competes within the same class of premium mid-size SUVs like Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, and Tata Harrier.
It would come with dual-zone climate control, an ADAS or Advanced Driver Assistance System, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Bose sound system with 12 speakers, and much more. Honda hasn't yet confirmed the entry of ZR-V Hybrid into India.
The company also plans to introduce a 7-seater SUV in India before 2027. The PF2 is an all-new one, and it is either going to be electric or a powertrain, but most likely the engine supply will be directly taken from the new Honda Elevate, which in turn shall be equipped with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit churning out 121 bhp, 145 Nm of torque. One hybrid version is more fuel efficient, as in the most recent model by Honda City.
In other words, there will be no compromise over extra space with elevated equipment when moving to this variant. Hence, it is suited even for large-sized families. Further, this mated to the 6-speed manual gear box or rather a 7-speed CVT automatic box type. Now that the 7-seated SUV starts for production during mid-October-2027 whereas its on-sales will go forth later by 2027.
The next generation of Honda City, expected to touch Indian shores by 2028, is going to be identical to its 7-seater SUV cousin based on PF2. While the designs and features coming down the pike for the new generation of City are going to be substantial updates, the 1.5-litre petrol as well as the hybrid powertrain will remain which made this car so popular all over the country.
This would still place New City as a premium, fuel-efficient sedan alternative, promising to those who aspire for comfort an alternative, a reliable car that one could return to and rely on for use in everyday projects.
Honda is working on a subcompact SUV, which will hit the Indian market in the first half of 2029. It will be based on the PF2 platform and will probably offer nearly all the attributes that an Elevate SUV should possess. The automobile's cost will be sharp; the power-providing source shall be a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor.
The new subcompact SUV will help Honda in its plan to offer small, affordable, and practical SUVs for the customers. "We want it to be an important player in the growing segment of sub-4 metre SUVs," added a Honda spokesperson.
