3 Big Mid-Size SUVs to Watch Out for This Year

Nissan Tekton, Tata Sierra.ev, and Honda Elevate facelift are coming soon. Tata Sierra.ev could offer up to 600 km range. Hyundai Creta faces growing competition in the segment.

The mid-size SUV segment in India is about to get even more exciting. After the launch of the all-new Tata Sierra in November, three more notable SUVs are expected to arrive in the coming months. These launches are set to increase competition and offer buyers more choices in one of the country’s most popular segments.

1. Nissan Tekton

On July 9, Nissan is set to unveil the Tekton, the long-awaited successor to the Terrano. The new SUV will share its platform and general shape with the all-new Renault Duster, but it will feature a sharper and more premium design, inspired by Nissan’s global flagship SUV, the Patrol.

The Tekton is expected to be launched toward the end of July. Engine options are likely to include 1.0- and 1.3-litre turbo petrol units, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-wet-clutch automatic transmission, with the latter reserved for the 1.3-litre engine. A hybrid variant with a 1.8-litre petrol engine coupled to an electric motor may follow in early 2027, offering a more efficient and eco-friendly option for buyers.

2. Tata Sierra EV

Later this month, Tata Motors will reveal the all-electric version of the Sierra, the Sierra.ev. The EV variant will feature a redesigned front end that reflects its zero-emission powertrain while retaining the rest of the exterior and interior styling from the ICE model.

The Sierra.ev will likely be available in standard-range RWD, extended-range RWD, and extended-range AWD variants. It will also feature a multi-link rear suspension and a vehicle-to-load (V2L) bi-directional charging system. The extended-range RWD version could offer a driving range of up to 600 km, making it one of the longest-range electric SUVs in India.

3. Honda Elevate Facelift

In the third quarter, Honda is expected to launch a facelifted version of the Elevate. The updated SUV will get redesigned front and rear bumpers, refreshed headlamps and tail lamps, new 17-inch alloy wheels, and ventilated front seats for added comfort.

Mechanically, the facelifted Elevate is expected to remain unchanged. The mid-cycle update focuses on design and comfort enhancements to keep the SUV competitive in the mid-size segment.
