India’s car market saw a big shift in July 2025, with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire climbing to the top of the monthly sales chart. According to industry data, the Dzire sold 20,895 units, making it the highest-selling car of the month.
This is the first time in FY26 that the Dzire has taken the No. 1 spot. The sedan saw a big jump in sales from 15,484 units in June 2025 and also improved year-on-year from about 16,300 units in July 2024.
The Dzire continues to be a favourite, especially in smaller cities and towns, due to its affordable price, fuel efficiency, and low running costs. The availability of a CNG version further boosts its appeal among budget-conscious Indian buyers.

Hyundai Creta, India’s favourite SUV, dropped to second place in July despite increasing its sales from 15,786 units in June to 16,898 units in July. Though it marked 10 years in the Indian market, it's facing growing competition from CNG-friendly and more affordable Maruti models.
Still, the Creta remains India’s best-selling SUV for July 2025.
At third place, the Maruti Ertiga clocked 16,604 units. As a practical and spacious MPV, it continues to attract family buyers, especially with its CNG option.
The Wagon R came in fourth with 14,710 units, showing continued strength among hatchbacks. Known for its tall-boy design and budget-friendly features, it's a strong contender in small towns.
The Swift, with 14,200 units, and Brezza, with 14,100 units, held the fifth and sixth spots respectively. The Swift appeals to performance-focused hatchback buyers, while the Brezza remains popular as a compact SUV with good mileage and bold design.
Mahindra Scorpio, one of India’s longest-running nameplates, took seventh position with 13,800 units sold. Its rugged build and strong road presence make it a top choice among SUV lovers.
Meanwhile, the Tata Nexon, once a regular in the top 5, came in at ninth place with 12,855 units. The model is likely awaiting its next big update to regain momentum.
Maruti Fronx, a relatively new entrant, continued its success with 12,900 units sold in July. Its crossover design, turbo-petrol engine, and mild-hybrid options are proving popular among younger buyers.
Lastly, Maruti Baleno claimed tenth spot with 12,600 units, reaffirming its position as a strong player in the premium hatchback segment.
With 7 out of 10 cars on the list, Maruti Suzuki continues to dominate India’s passenger car market. Its strategy of offering affordable, fuel-efficient, and CNG-compatible vehicles across segments is clearly working well, especially in the price-sensitive Indian market.
As we head into the festive season, automakers are likely to announce new launches and attractive offers. This could impact rankings in the coming months, but for now, Maruti Suzuki remains on top.
