Mahindra sold 58021 SUVs in May 2026 Hyundai domestic sales stood at 47837 Maruti Suzuki registered its highest-ever domestic and total sales in May 2026
Car manufacturers have released their sales numbers for the month of May 2026. Despite global crisis and supply chain constraints due to US-Israel and Iran war, automakers have posted positive sales last month. Both Mahindra and Hyundai posted impressive sales growth in the month of May 2026.

Maruti Suzuki has registered its highest-ever monthly domestic sales in May 2026. The company sold 193,535 vehicles last month compared with 138,690 units in the May 2025, registering a year-on-year sales growth of 39.5 per cent.
MSIL has also reported its highest-ever total monthly sales volume. The company dispatched a total of 242,688 units, including sales to other OEMs and exports, in May 2026 compared to 1,80,077 units in corresponding month last year, registering a YoY growth of 34.8 percent.
Maruti’s domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 1,90,337 units last month, up from 135,962 units a year earlier. The brand has also dispatched 3198 light commercial vehicle in May 2026 as against 2728 units in the same month last year.
UVs contributed massively to Maruti Suzuki’s growth last month. MSIL dispatched 79,267 units of the UVs, including Brezza, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, XL6 and Invicto, last month compared to 54,899 units in May 2025, registering a staggering YoY increase of 44.4 percent.

Tata Motors has reported a total sales, including domestic & international, of 59,790 units in May 2026 as against 42,040 units in the corresponding month last year. The company reported a year-on-year sales growth of 42 per cent. The Tata Punch and Nexon continues to drive volumes, with monthly sales at around 20,000 and 19,000, respectively.
In the domestic market, Tata Motors sold 59,090 vehicles last month as against 41,557 units in May 2025, registering a YoY growth of 42 per cent. The company exported 700 vehicles as compared to 483 units last year, registering 45% growth.
Tata Motors EV segment also posted an impressive sales growth, as it sold 10517 electric vehicles in May 2026 as against 5685 units in the same month last year. The company has reported a YoY sales growth of 85 per cent.
Mahindra & Mahindra has reported domestic SUV sales of 58,021 units in May 2026 as against 52,431 units in the same month last year, reporting a year-on-year sales growth of 11%. The homegrown UV maker’s total vehicle sales, including exports, domestic commercial vehicle and domestic SUV, stood at 99,636 units in the last month, registering a year-on-year growth of 20 per cent.
The overall utility vehicle sales, including exports, hit 59,573 units in May 2026. Speaking on the same, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “In May, we achieved SUV sales of 58,021 units, a growth of 11 per cent and total vehicle sales stood at 99,636, a 20 per cent YoY growth. The sustained demand across our portfolio continues, constrained by supply chain challenges due to manpower shortages at select suppliers.”
For the April-May period of FY27, the brand’s domestic SUV sales increased by 9 per cent. The company sold a total of 1,14,352 SUVs in May 2026 as compared to 1,04,761 units in the same period last year.

In the domestic market, Hyundai Motor India dispatched 47,837 vehicles in May 2026 as against 43861 units in the same month last year. The company has registered a year-on-year (YoY) sales growth of 9.1 per cent. With exports of 13,300 units, total monthly sales stood at 61,137 units, marking 4.1% YoY growth in May 2026. In May 2025, Hyundai had exported 14,840 vehicles.
Commenting on May 2026 sales results, Mr. Tarun Garg, MD & CEO - HMIL, said: “Hyundai Motor India has continued its strong momentum of the year into May as well, achieving domestic sales of 47,837 units with 9.1% YoY growth and total sales of 61,137 units with 4.1% YoY growth. In the first two months (April and May) of FY27, HMIL witnessed domestic sales rise by 13% to 99,739 units, compared to 88,235 units in the same period of FY26.”
The Korean automaker, Hyundai has already announced to launch two new cars before the end of this financial year. The company will introduce a sub-4 meter electric SUV and a new midsize SUV. The SUV-4 meter EV is expected to be introduced by Diwali 2026, while the mid-size SUV, rumoured to be called the Bayon, will arrive in Q1, 2027.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported a domestic sales of 30,574 units in May 2026 as against 29,280 units in the same month last year, registering a year-on-year sales growth of 4 per cent. The brand’s total sales, including exports, stood at 33,128 units, up 7 per cent from 30,864 units in May 2025. The company exported 2554 units in May 2026 as against 1584 units in the same month last year, registering a year-on-year sales growth of 61%.
In the January-May 2026 period, Toyota sold 157225 units with 16 per cent YoY sales growth. Its total sales increased 17 per cent to 170322 units compared with the corresponding period last year. Speaking on the sales, Sabari Manohar, Executive Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “the sustained demand across our product portfolio highlights a growing preference for quality, reliability and advanced technologies. This month marked a significant milestone as we crossed 3 lakh Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicle (SHEV) sales in India.”

Kia India has reported its highest-ever May sales since inception, with wholesale volumes of 27,586 units in May 2026 as against 22,315 units in the same month last year. The company registered a 23.6% year-on-year sales growth. Kia India has recorded year-to-date (YTD) sales of 139,197 units, compared to 121,514 units during the same period in 2025, reflecting a 14.6% growth over the same period last year.
Kia claims that the strong performance during the month was led by the new Seltos, which continued its strong momentum by crossing the 10,000 units sales every month since launched in January 2026.
Commenting on the performance, Mr. Atul Sood, Senior Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, Kia India said, “Our highest-ever May sales performance reflects the strong alignment of our product portfolio with evolving customer preferences across segments. The continued strong demand for the new Seltos along with Sonet, coupled with the encouraging response to the Carens Clavis, Clavis EV and the MY26 Syros, has helped us sustain our growth momentum. At the same time, recent initiatives like our Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program are playing an important role in making electric mobility more accessible and practical for customers. As we continue to strengthen our presence across the country, our focus remains on delivering innovative products, premium ownership experiences and technologies that are relevant to the evolving needs of Indian consumers.”

JSW MG Motor India has reported a total sales of 6048 vehicles in May 2026 as compared to 6304 vehicles in the corresponding month last year, reporting a marginal decline. In an official statement, JSW MG Motor claims that it has “maintained its sales performance despite global supply chain disruptions, rising commodity prices, and a sharp increase in freight tariffs.”
The company has recently launched the Majestor full-size SUV in the country. The 4x2 Automatic Top trim and 4x4 Automatic Top trim were launched at Rs 40.99 lakh (6- and 7-seater) and Rs 44.99 lakh (7-seater) ex-showroom, respectively.
