We reported earlier that Hyundai will launch the new Bayon sub-4 meter crossover in the Indian market. A new media report reveals that the Hyundai Bayon crossover will launch in India in 2026. Adding to it, the crossover could be powered by an all-new 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine.
The new Hyundai Bayon is the brand’s global model and is based on the same platform as the i20 model. In india, the sub-4 meter SUV will directly rival the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The new crossover is likely to be positioned between the Exter and the Venue compact SUV.
The new Hyundai Bayon crossover is reportedly to be powered by a new locally developed 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This turbo petrol engine will sit right between the current 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and the 1.5-litre turbo petrol units.
The new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine is reportedly to offer greater torque and drivability than the existing 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine. Moreover, the new turbo unit is more compact and fuel efficient than the 1.5L turbo petrol. Moreover, the 1.2L turbo petrol engine will be hybrid-ready, and Hyundai could launch new models with the new hybrid powertrains. The engine could be paired to either a dual-clutch automatic or an e-CVT.
The report claims that the 2026 Hyundai Bayon could be offered with two petrol engines including a new 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo petrol and a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol. Hyundai could debut the new 1.2L turbo engine in the next-gen Hyundai Venue compact SUV, which is likely to be introduced by October 2025.
The new Bayon will share several features with the newer Hyundai models such as the 4-spoke steering wheel, wireless charging and connected car tech. It gets a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. Other features include over-the-air (OTA) updates, fast-charging USB Type-C ports, ambient lighting, an 8-speaker sound system and LEVEL 2 ADAS tech.
