Mahindra & Mahindra today unveiled the Global Pick-up concept at its annual launch event held in Cape Town, South Africa. At the event the company showcased the prototype of its upcoming pick-up truck model that is targeted at ASEAN, Australia, India, South Africa, South and Central America. The new model will be a follow up to the Scorpio Getaway that was on sale in the country.
Based on the Mahindra Scorpio N SUV that is on sale in the country, the new pick-up truck uses next generation ladder frame chassis. The new architecture offers more durability, crash protection and stiffness, while maintaining the best-in-class ride, handling and NVH.
According to Mahindra Cars, the new Global Pick-Up concept is capable of scoring high in ANCAP, GNCAP and Latin NCAP crash tests.
In terms of exterior design, the new model borrows its styling cues from Scorpio N but features a redesigned grille along with thicker bash plates. In addition, the car also get metallic lower grille element that helps with winching in tough situation.
Moving to the sides, we get to see the double cab design with open bed for luggage. The SUV also rides on larger all-weather tyres that help it navigate the tricky stuff. While at the rear, we once again get to see a thick bumper with chunky skid plates. Overall, the new Global Pick-Up has been designed with a utilitarian approach.
On the inside, the new model will features the same interior layout as the Scorpio N but with a different theme for the upholstery. The key highlights of the cabin include dual digital screens for infotainment and instrument cluster, 5G connectivity and sunroof among others.
In terms of powertrain options, the Mahindra pick-up comes powered by the Gen2 mHawk engine with Zip, Zap, Zoom driving models. Transmission options include either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. 4WD with Electric Shift-On-Fly system will be offered as standard on the new model keeping in line with its usage.
Safety equipment on offer includes a up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC and Level-2 autonomous tech. As a segment first feature, the pick-up concept will also offer auto-park assist.
The company has not unveiled the launch date for the new model, but we expect it to enter production sometime during 2027.
In addition to the Global Pick-Up concept, the company also revealed details about its upcoming born electric vehicles. The INGLO architecture-based vehicles will come powered by an 80 kW, 135 Nm front motor and either 210 kW, 535 Nm or 170 kW, 380 Nm rear motor. These high-performance electric powertrain will be supplied to Mahindra by either VW or Valeo.
Alongside the powertrain detail, the company also revealed that the upcoming EV will feature a new Mahindra logo along with an update interior that features edge-to-edge screen, augmented reality HUD, active ambient light and more. The brand also revealed that it has partnered with Dolby Atmos and Harman Kardon for 3D immersive sound.
