Mahindra NU Platform to Debut Alongside Next-Gen Bolero Neo on August 15

Mahindra has officially teased a brand-new vehicle platform, likely to be unveiled on August 15, 2025 — India’s Independence Day. The teaser, shared on Mahindra Auto’s social media platforms, includes the caption: “Freedom gets a NU expression this Independence Day as we showcase a Bold NU vision for the future.” The highlight is the term “NU,” which appears to be the official name of the platform, previously known internally as the NFA — New Flexible Architecture.

Designed for Both ICE and Electric Vehicles

Interestingly, even though the teaser comes from Mahindra Automotive, which deals with internal combustion engine (ICE) models, it also features Mahindra Electric Origin branding and hashtags. This strongly suggests that the Freedom NU platform may support both ICE and electric powertrains. The teaser also includes four vertical stripes, possibly pointing to four fuel options: petrol, diesel, electric, and hybrid.

Will Likely Underpin Upcoming Mahindra Models

Mahindra is currently testing several vehicles on Indian roads — including the BE Rall-E, XUV 3XO EV, next-gen Scorpio N, XUV700 facelift, and a new Bolero. Among these, the next-generation Bolero is rumoured to be one of the first vehicles based on this new monocoque platform. Some reports also suggest that a “Thar Sports” version could be launched on the same architecture in the future.

Could Introduce Mainstream PHEVs in India

Mahindra is also expected to explore plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) as part of this platform’s capabilities. Unlike traditional hybrids, these PHEVs may feature range extenders, offering both longer EV range and reduced emissions. If true, Mahindra could become the first major automaker in India to bring PHEVs to the mainstream market.

New Bolero Neo to Debut Alongside Mahindra's NU Platform on August 15

Mahindra will also unveil the new Bolero Neo facelift on August 15, 2025, alongside its all-new “Freedom NU” platform. The updated Bolero Neo will feature fresh exterior styling, including a new Mahindra grille, circular headlamps, and redesigned body panels. It retains the rugged ladder-frame chassis but adds a more modern look with boxy proportions, flush door handles, alloy wheels, and vertically stacked tail-lamps.

Inside, the SUV will offer a more premium experience with a new dashboard layout, larger touchscreen, updated steering wheel, and features like six airbags, panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, and possibly automatic climate control. While the current model runs on a 1.5L 3-cylinder diesel engine, the facelift may switch to a more powerful 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo-diesel with manual and automatic options. The launch is expected around the festive season, with prices likely ranging between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 14 lakh.
