Launched to celebrate 20 years of the iconic nameplate; Will be available with one petrol and one diesel engine option; Will get an upmarket cabin and design
20 years after it was first launched in India, Mahindra & Mahindra has brought back the Scorpio nameplate in an all-new avatar. Christened the Scorpio N, this new generation model brings forward updated features, powertrains and a premium interior to the vehicle at an introductory price starting at Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Fondly called the #BigDaddyofSUVs, the four-wheeler will be the flag-bearer of the company’s ‘Live Young. Live Free’ philosophy.
Despite going through a generation change, the SUV is unmistakably a Scorpio. Mahindra has made tasteful changes to the new model to make it more muscular and rugged. The front fascia of the four-wheeler is characterised by a large grille with 6 vertical chrome slats, a new bumper design and sleek C-Shaped LED DRLs. Towards the side, we clearly see the long bonnet, beefy wheel arches and the kink in the shoulder line, all of which give the vehicle a distinct character. Towards the rear, the SUV continues to stick to its roots and features the side hinged tailgate along with the signature stacked vertical tail lamps.
For the first time in its 20-year history, the Scorpio will feature an all-new cabin and seating orientation. Moving away from the mechanical layout, Mahindra has incubated a new premium interior for the Scorpio N finished in a rich coffee black theme. The four-wheeler gets a tall seating position for the driver, giving him a commanding view of the road ahead. In addition, the company has moved away from the side facing last row of seats and now features traditional three rows of seating. The seats are large and comfortable, accommodating adults with ease. Other highlights of the interior include a dual tone dashboard, advanced infotainment system with ADRENOX, knurled dials for entertainment and AC controls.
Like its older sibling, the XUV700, the Scorpio N also comes with connected car technology that will allow customers to remotely control the vehicle and check its status using the Alexa home and mobile assistant.
Years after it was discontinued, the petrol engine option will return to the Scorpio N as Mahindra has decided to offer the model with one petrol and one diesel engine option. The petrol mill is the 2.0-litre unit that is sufficient for a maximum power output of 197bhp and 380Nm of peak torque. On the flipside, the diesel engine will be the familiar 2.2-litre unit that produces 172 bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. All variants will be available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission.
The company is offering the Scorpio N in five variants namely – Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8 and Z8L. All variants will be available with the petrol and diesel engine option while only the top end variant gets the 4XPLOR terrain system.
Pricing for the manual variants is attached below, while pricing for the automatic and 4WD models will be shared at a later stage.
The Scorpio N will be available in 7 colour options namely Dazzling Silver, Deep Forest, Grand Canyon, Everest White, Napoli Black, Red Rage and Royal Gold.
So, are you surprised with the Scorpio N’s pricing? Let us know your thoughts.
