The homegrown utility vehicle manufacturer, Mahindra has revealed 4 new concept SUVs, including the Vision S, Vision X, Vision SXT and Vision T. Out of these 4 concepts, the Vision S and Vision X previews the brand’s two upcoming sub-4 meter SUVs. Mahindra has also confirmed that the brand’s new range of SUVs based on the new NU.IQ platform will start arriving in our market from 2027 onwards. Let’s talk about the new Mahindra Vision S and Vision X compact SUVs in detail -
The X in the concept’s Name suggests that the SUV will belong to the XUV family. The Vision X based SUV is most likely to come as the next-gen Mahindra XUV 3XO, which will be based on Mahindra’s new front-wheel-drive modular platform. The NU.IQ modular platform is compatible with multiple powertrains and can be used to develop produces measuring between 3,990mm and 4,320mm in length.
The concept has a wheelbase of 2,665mm, which is the longest among all sub-4 meter SUVs. The Vision X has a sporty, crossover design complemented by an upright stance and high ground clearance. It shares some of the design elements like coupe-like rear windscreen, spoiler and sculpted bonnet with the BE 6 Coupe SUV.
The next-gen XUV 3XO will come with an all-new cabin, featuring a layered dashboard and two curved screens separated by vertically stacked AC vents. The SUV is likely to be offered with the 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine. Moreover, it will also receive a new hybrid engine.
The Vision S based SUV will first arrive in our market, as the testing of the production-spec model has already been started. However, the SUV is currently in early-stages of testing and is expected to arrive in late 2026 or early 2027. The SUV is expected to join the Scorpio family, which currently has two large SUVs - Scorpio Classic and Scorpio-N.
The spy images confirm that the new compact SUV will remain true to its original concept, except for some realistic changes. The SUV has an upright stance, flat roof, squared-off wheel arches and squarish front and rear profile. It will be the brand’s new lifestyle SUV, which is rumoured to sit under 4 meters in length. The SUV will continue to offer a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, which is also similar to that of the concept.
The concept has triple vertically-stacked LED lights on either side of centrally mounted twin peaks logo, and this set-up work as a connector between the inverted L-shaped headlights. However, the production model will have a traditional circular shaped headlamps with LED inserts, LED fog lamps and a signature Mahindra grille.
Details about the powertrain options are yet to be revealed, but we expect the new SUV to come with petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains. It is likely to get the 1.2L petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel engines. A new hybrid engine based on the 1.2L turbo petrol engine is also under development.
