Mercedes-Benz India has just released the first teaser of its upcoming GLS Facelift ahead of its global unveil on April 4, 2023. While the shadowy image does not reveal much, the facelifted SUV will offer a refreshed design, new features, and updated powertrain options. We take a closer look at the SUV.
The Third-Generation Mercedes-Benz GLS was launched in 2019. While the official teaser image does not reveal much, recent spy shots give us an idea of what the facelifted SUV could look like. On the exterior, changes will be mild like the front bumper being thicker than before while the tailgate will offer a full-width LED light bar that connects the taillights. There are no other changes with the GLS’ silhouette and overall design remaining similar to the current model.
Most of the big changes will be seen on the GLS’ interior. While exact details are yet to be released, the SUV is expected to offer an updated infotainment system and digital instrument cluster with the latest MBUX software, new interior colour scheme, and a new steering wheel. The premium SUV could also offer new driver assists for off-roading and trailering similar to the ones seen on the 2024 GLE.

It is believed that Mercedes could also update the GLS’ current powertrain options. This would include a 3-litre turbo diesel motor making 325 bhp with 700 Nm of peak torque and a 3-litre turbo-petrol unit that delivers 362 bhp and 500 Nm torque. The flagship Maybach GLS will be powered by a 4-litre V8 petrol engine that churns out 550 bhp with 730 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties will be handled by a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
As mentioned above, Mercedes is all set to globally reveal the facelifted GLS on April 4, 2023. The SUV is expected to go on sale in India a few months later. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of the Land Rover Discovery & Defender, Toyota Land Cruiser, and the Audi Q7.
