Rox 01 hybrid SUV patented in India Defender rival with rugged design Up to 1,226 km claimed range
A new full-size hybrid SUV has been patented in India, and it could turn heads in the premium segment. The Rox 01 is a large plug-in hybrid SUV that combines rugged design with modern technology. With its bold stance and long driving range, it is being seen as a potential rival to the Land Rover Defender.
While its India launch is not confirmed yet, the patent filing hints at possible future plans.

The Rox 01 has been patented by Rox Motor, a brand known to have links with Xiaomi.
Interestingly, the model patented in India shows a mix of elements from both Rox 01 and Adamas versions sold globally. It also features a LiDAR unit on the windshield, indicating advanced driver assistance tech.

The Rox 01 is a proper full-size SUV with strong road presence.
It measures over 5.2 metres in length and features a boxy, upright design similar to traditional off-road SUVs. The front gets a bold grille and large headlamps, while the straight roofline adds to its tough appeal.
Other highlights include a side-hinged tailgate, roof rails, and a spare wheel mounted on the rear, giving it a rugged and practical look.
Inside, the Rox 01 offers a premium cabin with multiple seating options.
Buyers can choose between 2+2+2 and 2+3+2 layouts. The 2+2+2 setup comes with lounge seats that offer massage, heating, ventilation, and even an ottoman function.
The SUV also gets Nappa leather upholstery, a large 15.7-inch infotainment screen, a rear entertainment display, and a 12.3-inch digital cluster. Features like a premium sound system, soft-close doors, and three-zone climate control add to the luxury feel.
The biggest highlight of the Rox 01 is its plug-in hybrid powertrain.
It uses a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a 56 kWh battery pack. The combined output stands at 469 bhp and 740 Nm, along with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system.
The SUV offers a pure electric range of around 235 km and a total claimed range of up to 1,226 km, making it one of the longest-range hybrid SUVs.
The Rox 01 is equipped with modern safety and tech features.
It includes ADAS, multiple airbags, a surround view camera, electronic dampers with adjustable ride height, and even crawl control for off-road conditions. The LiDAR setup further suggests advanced driver assistance capabilities.

With brands like JSW Motors and JSW MG Motor India planning to introduce plug-in hybrid vehicles, the entry of models like the Rox 01 could strengthen this segment.
If launched, this new hybrid SUV could appeal to buyers looking for a mix of luxury, performance, and long driving range. Its rugged design and capabilities also make it a strong Defender rival in the evolving SUV market.
For now, all eyes are on whether Rox Motor brings this impressive SUV to India.
