Buoyed by positive response for the new Seltos, Kia India is planning to further boost sales by introducing newer models in the country. To expand its footprint alongside the ICE Syros, the South Korean carmaker is executing a strategic double-pronged offensive.

By utilising the high-tech K1 platform for its compact vehicle lineup, Kia is launching two major sub-compact SUVs; a practical urban EV followed closely by a ground-up transformation of its bestseller.

The new Syros EV will be the smallest and most affordable electric offering from the South Korean automaker in the country. Estimated to be priced between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, the new electric SUV will rival the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and the MG Windsor EV.

Built on the K1 architecture, the Kia Syros EV will feature a FWD (front-wheel drive) system. It is expected to be offered with two battery options - a 42kWh Standard Range and a 49kWh Long Range. Both are paired to a permanent magnet synchronous motor. Kia would be aiming to offer a realistic range of around 350-400km on a single charge.

The spy images suggest that the Syros EV will look similar to the regular model, except for the few EV-specific changes. The electric SUV will come with a blanked-off front profile, NEO or Lime Green colour brake callipers and front-fender mounted charging port.

Next-gen Kia Sonet: (Launch - 2027)

Codenamed QY2E, the second generation Kia Sonet will come with a design overhaul and a longer list of features. It will be designed and developed on the new K1 platform that also underpins the Kia Syros. The next Sonet will also grow in size, and will ride on longer wheelbase. The SUV will offer a bigger boot space and improved legroom and headroom in the second row. It is expected to have a 2520mm long wheelbase, which is 20mm longer than the existing model.

It is likely to get larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment and digital driver’s display. The sub-4 meter SUV could also get a Syros-like camera and radar-based LEVEL-2 ADAS tech. The 2027 Kia Sonet is expected to retain its existing engine options, including an 83hp, 1.2L NA petrol, a 120hp, 1.0L turbo petrol and a 116hp, 1.5L turbo diesel. It is also likely to get a strong hybrid powertrain, which is currently under development. This model could launch sometime in 2028 or 2029.
