It is no secret that Toyota is preparing the next generation Fortuner, and its camouflaged prototype has been spotted testing in Thailand. The Japanese automaker, Toyota has already introduced the new Hilux lifestyle pickup for global markets. In fact, the new model is expected to be introduced in our market by the festive season, 2026. The current Fortuner was first introduced in 2015, and received a mid-life update in 2020.
It is expected that the next-gen Toyota Fortuner to debut in Thailand and other South Asian markets by mid-2026. India launch is expected in late 2026 or early 2027. It will directly rival the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron and the upcoming MG Majestor.

Similar to the new Hilux, the next-gen Toyota Fortuner is expected to retain the IMV ladder-frame chassis. The recent spy shots reveal that the new SUV carries a familiar silhouette and identical greenhouse areas. This suggests that the new SUV will be a more evolved version of the existing model. Its front design seems heavily inspired by the new Hilux, featuring a slimmer LED headlights positioned above an upright, squared-off bumper. It gets the Hilux-like honeycomb grille that has been repositioned lower on the fascia.
The spotted model is covered in thick cloth, and it is expected to get split LED headlamp setup instead of the current single-unit setup. The side profile appears largely identical to the existing model. At the back, the SUV gets full-width LED tail-lights, a redesigned tailgate and new bumper.
We expect that the next-gen Toyota Fortuner could borrow its cabin layout from the Hilux and the Land Cruiser Prado. It will continue to offer a three-row layout, offering both 6 and 7-seat layouts. The dashboard is likely to house dual 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and digital driver’s unit. It is likely to get physical controls for essential functions, a chunky steering wheel and comprehensive ADAS tech.
The next-gen Fortuner is likely to be based on the strengthened version of the IMV ladder-frame architecture. The suspensions will be revised for improved ride comfort. The SUV is likely to be offered with the familiar 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo diesel engine with an integrated starter generator. This engine produces 201bhp and 500Nm of torque, and its mild-hybrid unit is expected to add another 14bhp and 64Nm. The petrol version is likely to get a 2.7-litre engine paired to an automatic gearbox. It could also get a 2.4L hybrid turbo petrol engine, which powers few global Lexus and Toyota models.
