Nissan Terrano PHEV SUV Likely to Launch in India

Nissan could launch Terrano PHEV Concept based SUV in India Could be locally produced or assembled at Renault's Chennai plant

Nissan India will launch the Tekton mid-size SUV and its 3-row derivative in the Indian market by 2027. Nissan has recently showcased the Terrano PHEV concept at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show, and its product-version is expected to be introduced by the end of 2026 or early 2027. A new media report claims that Nissan is aiming to launch its own and distinct models in India, including products from its Dongfeng JV, a 50-50 partnership.

The Terrano PHEV concept is an SUV version of the Nissan Frontier PRO/ Dongfeng Z9 pick-ups. The ladder-frame based SUV, the SUV shares the powertrain options with the pick-ups, which include a conventional internal combustion engine and a plug-in hybrid unit. The report claims that Nissan is aiming to introduce the PHEV variant to India.

Low-Cost Platform

Nissan’s Dongfeng JV offers a low-cost base and the vehicles are equipped with several high-end comfort and convenience features. Nissan could also utilise its allocated 2,50,000 units per annum at the Renault’s Chennai based manufacturing facility. The Terrano PHEV and other products from Nissan-Dongfeng JV could be locally assembled and developed at Renault’s Chennai manufacturing plant.

Terrano PHEV - Key Details

Nissan has confirmed that the production version of the Terrano concept will be unveiled within one year. The company also plans to introduce three additional NEV models in China within a year. The new Terrano previews a boxy-shaped, rugged-looking SUV with off-road elements. It has rugged body cladding, massive lower bumper, large glass areas and simple surfaces. Design seems inspired from the Land Rover Defender, specifically from the rear side. It gets a flat rear with a tailgate-mounted spare wheel wrapped in a thick bar works as a connector between LED tail-lights.
