Renault India currently has three models in its lineup, the Kwid, Triber, and Kiger. Now, according to the latest reports, the automaker is planning to expand its portfolio with three new models by 2025. Like most manufacturers, Renault Cars is also looking at launching all new SUVs in the country.
Venkatram Mamilapalle, CEO and Managing Director of Renault India, stated, "The three (existing models) will continue. And then the new products will come in. We will go into the four plus meters segment, 4.3 meters basically,".
He also added that Renault has already started development of the upcoming models.
The mid-size SUV segment is the fastest-growing and arguably the most competitive category in India. Most automakers have at least one model in the segment with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Honda Eleavate, MG ZS EV and the Toyota Hyryder and Renault now plans to take a piece of the pie. Mamilapalle said, “That is what the market wants. What else is there in the market today?"
Talking about the Renault Duster’s launch, the CEO said, "Duster is a fascinating vehicle and that is the inspiration for Renault to be in India. And I do not know whether we will call Duster or we are bringing Duster or Duster replacement. Or whatever you call it. But we are getting into that segment."
The Renault-Nissan alliance had announced earlier this year that it will be investing around Rs 5,300 in India. The latest investments are part of the brand’s strategy to introduce six new models, three each for Nissan and Renault. This will include 4 ICE (internal combustion engine) models and 2 electric models.
