Škoda Auto recently launched the Kushaq Onyx Edition in India at a price tag of Rs 12.39 lakh (ex-showroom). The new variant slots between the entry-level base Active and mid-spec Ambition Classic trims. It is offered with the 1-litre turbo-petrol only.
The biggest noticeable external change on the New Kushaq Onyx Edition is the ‘Onyx’ badging on the B-pillar and stylised gray graphics on the doors. The Special Edition model features chrome surrounds on the front grille, faux front diffuser, and 16-inch steel wheels with new plastic covers.
Inside, the compact SUV gets Onyx badging on the headrests, a two-spoke steering wheel, chrome surrounds for AC vents, a textured dashboard pattern, and a dual-tone black and white interior theme. It also features new equipment over the base Ambition trim which includes auto climate control, an air purifier, LED headlights, fog lamps, and a rear wiper with washer. Other notable features list consists of a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, height-adjustable driver’s seat, and a 6-speaker audio setup.

As mentioned earlier, the 2023 Skoda Kushaq Onyx Edition is available only with the 1-litre turbo-petrol option. The motor is capable of churning out 115 bhp with 178 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duty is handled by only a 6-speed manual gearbox. However, media reports suggest that the Czech automaker may introduce a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox on the Onyx Edition in the near future.
The Kushaq is one of the newer entrants in the highly competitive and crowded Indian mid-size SUV segment. It rivals the likes of the MG Astor, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
