Skoda’s EVs Plans For India – 7-Seater Peaq & Affordable Electric Car

Skoda Peaq flagship electric SUV set to debut on June 23, 2026. Locally developed Skoda EV is expected to take a couple of years to hit roads.

Skoda and Volkswagen are planning to enter the electric and hybrid vehicle segments in India. Both carmakers are expected to launch their first electric offerings during the current fiscal year, while hybrid cars are likely to arrive by 2028. Skoda Auto India hasn’t yet confirmed its upcoming electric models; however, the future EV lineup is expected to include the Peaq and a locally-developed EV.

Skoda Peaq For India

The Skoda Peaq will be the largest model in the company’s portfolio and could be introduced in India as a flagship EV only in higher variants. The SUV is set to make its global debut on June 23, 2026. While there is no official word on its India launch timeline, a Skoda official has confirmed that the company aims to introduce its “global portfolio in India next year.”

The Peaq will essentially be the production version of the Skoda Vision 7S concept, which was showcased at the 2025 Auto Expo. Official sketches reveal that the electric SUV will feature slender T-shaped headlamps with connecting element, the Volcano-shaped bumper with pronounced lower contour and gloss-black Tech Deck face. Other design highlights include high shoulder line, wide D-pillars, flush door handles, and T-shaped taillamps with a connecting element.

Skoda Local EV For India

As part of its ‘India 2.0’ project, Skoda will introduce a locally developed EV aimed at mass-market segemnt. The Czech automaker already sells the Citigoe iV BEV (battery electric vehicle) in global markets. The hatchback features an 83bhp electric motor and offers a range of 225-274km on a full charge. The carmaker is also working on the Skoda Enyaq based electric SUV. However, both these EVs are not viable options for India due to their cost constraints and niche market positioning.

Localization of components will be the only solution to reduce overall project costs and achieve competitive pricing in India. Skoda Auto has already confirmed that the brand’s local EV will take time to reach the market, suggesting that the launch is still some years away.
