Honda Cars India has just announced that its upcoming SUV will be named as the Elevate. The automaker had recently stated that the SUV will be making its global debut in India on June 6. It will go on sale here first, followed by other international markets.
Developed as a global model, the Elevate will be the first serious product to take on the compact SUV segment on the behalf of Honda Cars. The brand’s previous models like the BR-V’s unique styling was received poorly in India, translating into low sales. This is why the new Elevate will have a more traditional SUV feel. It will have a tall and upright stance with broad shoulders and squared off edges. The front fascia will feature a large grille flanked by slim LED headlights and DRLs. Moving to the side, it will provide flared wheel arches with chunky body cladding while the rear end tailgate will offer a sculpted bootlid and sleek LED tail lights.
Moving inside, expect Honda to pack the Elevate’s interior with features such as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, electric sunroof, ambient lighting, wireless charging, auto climate control, and more.
Honda will offer the Elevate as a petrol-only model during its launch. Therefore it will come powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine that would deliver a maximum power output of 120 bhp with 145 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options here would include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic gearbox.
While Honda will not offer a diesel powertrain, the automaker may introduce a strong-hybrid engine in the Elevate sometime in the near future.
The Elevate will enter one of the most competitive and fastest growing segments in India. To help it stand out from the rest, Honda may price it more aggressively, around Rs 9 lakh to Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom).
Upon launch, the Honda Elevate will rival the likes of the Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and the Hyundai Creta.
