Aiming to regain its lost market in India, Honda plans to expand its product portfolio with three new models by the 2026-2027 fiscal year. Furthermore, the Japanese automaker is developing a new modular platform (PF2) for its future products, which is flexible to accommodate different body styles and powertrains. The OEM will also localize EV and hybrid technologies to achieve competitive pricing and gain an edge over its rivals.
Honda’s upcoming range will include electric and strong hybrid vehicles such as an Elevate-based EV in 2026, a 7-seater SUV and a new-generation City sedan based on the PF2 architecture. The company is also considering the Honda ZR-V SUV for India, which might arrive towards the end of this year or early next year. However, an official confirmation is still pending. If approved for India, the SUV will be brought as a completely knocked down (CKD) unit.
In Japan and other ASEAN markets, the Honda ZR-V is available with a petrol hybrid powertrain. The setup includes a 2.0L petrol engine and two electric motors, delivering a combined power of 184bhp and 315Nm of torque. One must note that the power figures vary depending on the market. The ZR-V e:HEV accelerates 0 to 100kmph in nearly 7.8 seconds, and offers a top speed of around 173kmph. The hybrid version comes with an e-CVT gearbox. It is claimed to offer fuel efficiency of around 22.2kmpl (4.5-litres per 100 kilometres on the combined WLTC cycle).
Globally, the ZR-V is also offered with the pure petrol engine option. It features a 1.5L turbo petrol motor, paired to a CVT gearbox and AWD system. This engine produces a peak power of 122PS at 5,500rpm and 173Nm of torque between 2,000rpm – 4,500rpm. In India, this SUV is most likely to be brought in with the strong hybrid powertrain only.
Dimensionally, the Honda ZR-V measures 4,568mm in length, 1,840mm in width and 1,620mm in height. It sits on a 2,655mm long wheelbase. The SUV features the brand’s familiar design language with elements such as an oval front grille with vertical slats, sleek LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, a sloping bonnet, circular wheel arches, alloy wheels, body-coloured door handles and ORVMs, LED taillamps, rectangular exhaust vents and rear bumper in metallic finish.
Honda has equipped the ZR-V with several advanced features including its own Honda SENSING suite (ADAS – advanced driver assistance system). It provides access to safety features such as lane departure warning, forward collision warning, lane keep assist system, adaptive cruise control, low speed braking control, road departure mitigation system and more.
Inside the cabin, the SUV has a 10.2-inch drive information interface, dual zone automatic climate control, wireless charger, power adjustable driver and front passenger seat, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, leatherette upholstery, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, USB Type-C charging ports, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Bose sound system, OTA updates and more.
