Mahindra is currently testing multiple new products including the new-gen Bolero, Bolero Neo facelift, XUV700 facelift and BE 6 Rall-E. The company will also launch the updated version of the Thar lifestyle off-roader. In fact, the Thar 3-door facelift has been caught testing for the first time on the Indian roads. It is expected to be launched towards the end of this year.
The spotted model was partially covered in thick cloth, suggesting limited changes. The Thar 3-door facelift is expected to receive revised front and rear bumpers, and new headlamp and tail-lamp setups. The SUV is also expected to get the brand’s new grille, revised fenders and newly styled alloy wheels.
Majority of the changes could be made inside the cabin. We believe that the Mahindra Thar facelift could share some of its features with the Thar Roxx and Scorpio-N. The SUV is expected to receive a bigger touchscreen infotainment unit with better user interface, and a new digital driver’s display.
The new Thar facelift could receive new comfort and convenience features such as ventilated front seats, a 360-degree surround view camera, ambient lighting, blind spot monitoring and others. Mahindra Thar could also get LEVEL 2 ADAS tech, which we have already seen on the Mahindra XUV 3XO. The ADAS tech features will include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, auto high-beam and others.
The new Mahindra Thar 3-door facelift is likely to retain the existing engine options, including a 2.2-litre diesel, 2.0-litre turbo petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel. The 1.5L diesel engine is available with the RWD layout, and is capable of producing 117bhp and 300Nm of torque. Transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
The 2.0L turbo petrol engine produces 150bhp and 300Nm of torque, while the turbo diesel engine is good for 130bhp and 300Nm. Both engines can be paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.
