The Korean automaker, Kia is preparing to launch multiple new SUVs, including the next-generations of existing models and new EVs. The popular Kia Seltos will soon receive a mid-life upgrade, while the Sonet sub-4 meter SUV will enter the new generation. A new 7-seater SUV and Syros based compact electric SUV are also under development. Let’s talk about these models in detail -
The Korean automaker is actively testing the next-gen Seltos SUV in India as well on foreign soil. The SUV is rumoured to make India debut sometime later this year, most probably in November 2025. However, the SUV for global markets is reportedly to arrive in early next year. Kia India is yet to make an official announcement on the launch timeline.
The next-gen Kia Seltos will carry a boxy design inspired by the Telluride. It will receive an all-new cabin with features like a new larger connected screen, new physical buttons for functions and new upholstery. It will also get a front parking sensors and an improved ADAS tech. Kia has confirmed that the next Seltos will receive a hybrid powertrain, which is likely to use the existing 1.5L NA petrol engine. Other engine choices will include a 1.5L NA petrol, a 1.5L turbo petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel.
After introducing the Carens Clavis EV, Kia is readying its second mass market electric vehicle for the Indian market. Based on the Syros, the compact electric SUV is reportedly to arrive in our market by mid-2026. The SUV has recently been snapped while charging in Korea. It will take on the likes of the Tata Nexon EV and the upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.
The big update is that the Syros EV will mark the debut of dual charging ports, placed on each side of the front fenders. The SUV will look largely identical to its ICE counterpart, except for the mandatory EV-specific changes. It is likely to share the battery packs with the Carens Clavis EV, which comes with a 42kWh and a 51.4kWh battery pack options. It is expected to offer a realistic range of around 400km.
First Launched in 2020, the Kia Sonet has been one of the top-sellers for the Korean brand. The SUV has successfully completed 5 years in India and is ready to enter the new generation. However, the next-gen Kia Sonet won’t arrive before 2027. The subcompact SUV is likely to carry the same urban and sporty design language, while Syros will be brand’s lifestyle model in the sub-4 meter SUV category.
It is expected to receive substantial design changes along with a more upmarket interior and a longer list of features. The next-gen Sonet could also receive a hybrid powertrain, which could be based the new 1.2L turbo petrol engine. This engine will first debut in the upcoming Hyundai Bayon based crossover in 2026. It is claimed to be hybrid ready and will power multiple mass market cars from Hyundai and Kia.
Kia is reportedly working on an all-new 7-seater SUV, which will be manufactured at Kia’s Anantapur facility in Andhra Pradesh. Internally called Project MQ4i, the new Kia SUV will challenge the likes of the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari. This new SUV will be based on the same platform that underpins the Sorento SUV on sale in global markets.
Similar to the next-gen Seltos, the new Kia 7-seater SUV will receive a petrol-hybrid powertrain. The SUV could get the 1.6L hybrid powertrain with an eAWD set-up, which is likely to be offered on the global-spec new-gen Kia Seltos.
