Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the launch of the much-awaited e Vitara SUV. Likely to be launched in March 2025, the new Maruti Suzuki Vitara electric has already reached dealerships for customer previews and test drives. Not just an EV, Maruti Suzuki is also preparing an all-new 3-row SUV to rival the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus.
The new 7-seater Maruti SUV will be manufactured at Suzuki's new Kharkhoda manufacturing plant in Haryana. It is basically the 3-row version of the Grand Vitara SUV, which is based on Suzuki's Global-C platform. Engineers will have to tweak the platform to create a larger SUV with a longer wheelbase and an extended rear overhang.
The current Grand Vitara measures 4345mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2600mm. The 7-seater model could be around 4.5 meters in length with a wheelbase of around 2700-2750mm. Moreover, Maruti engineers will utilize the boot to add third-row seats.
Testing of the new 7-seater Grand Vitara has already been started and the possible launch is expected in the second half of 2025. It will be the second Maruti Suzuki car in India to get ADAS features, as the e Vitara will be the first to receive ADAS tech.
To be sold through NEXA dealership, the 7-seater Maruti SUV will be powered by the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.
The SUV will also receive a strong hybrid powertrain, which is a Toyota's sourced 1.5L TNGA unit. The hybrid set up is likely to be modified to maintain boot space, as the current Grand Vitara has battery placed in the boot.
