Japanese carmaker Honda is readying three new SUVs for the Indian market. The new SUVs will be launched in our market in 2026-27 fiscal. With the new range of models, the Japanese brand is hoping to revive its market share. The company is currently selling single SUV model, the Elevate in the market with the other two cars being Amaze compact sedan and City mid-sized sedan.
Honda has confirmed that its first battery electric vehicle will arrive in our market in the first half of 2026. It was earlier planned to be an electric derivative of the Elevate SUV; however, media reports claim that the first Honda EV will be an all-new model. The new electric SUV will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv EV and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
Honda is also working on an all-new 7-seater SUV, which is rumoured to be offered with petrol and hybrid powertrains. The new 7-seater SUV will be based on the Honda’s new PF2 architecture, which is currently under development. The new platform will be compatible with both ICE and electric powertrains. In fact, the next-generation City sedan will also be based on the same architecture.
Honda Cars India has recently showcased the ZR-V hybrid to its dealers, suggesting that this global SUV could arrive in our market as a CBU model. The ZR-V is available with a petrol hybrid powertrain. The setup includes a 2.0L petrol engine and two electric motors, delivering a combined power of 184bhp and 315NM of torque. It is claimed to offer 0 to 100kmph in nearly 7.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 173kmph. The hybrid version is claimed to offer fuel efficiency of around 22.2kmpl.
Honda is also considering launching a hybrid version of the Elevate midsize SUV in India. The company aims to localise the 1.5L hybrid engine that powers the City sedan. The same engine will power the Elevate Hybrid and the new 7-seater SUV. Few reports claim that Honda is also working on a new compact SUV based on the new PF2 architecture. This SUV will sit below 4 meters in length and will rival the Kia Syros, Hyundai Venue and others.
