Kia EV5 SUV Concept Revealed

Just a few days after the global reveal of the production-spec Kia EV9 SUV, Kia has quickly followed it up with the unveiling of the EV5 Concept. It is the brand’s third born EV and is essentially the smaller sibling of the New EV9.

The EV5 is slated to launch in China first by the end of 2023. While Kia did not confirm if it will launch in Europe yet, the brand promised to reveal "future plans for the other global markets" in the near future.

Kia EV5: Exterior Design and Interior Features

EV5

Looking at the pictures, the New Kia EV5 Concept follows a very similar boxy design philosophy, dubbed ‘Opposites United’, to the larger EV9. It gets a squared off front end with vertically stacked headlights, full-width LED light bar, and a chunky bumper. The side profile features a couple of strong character lines, flared wheelarches, 21-inch alloy wheels, kink on the windowline, and suicide rear doors. Towards the rear, the EV5 features inverted L-shaped LED tail lights, a roof spoiler, and a black bumper with a faux silver skid plate.

EV5 Interior

Like the EV9 Concept, the EV5’s interior also features some interesting choices. It also gets the swiveling seats that allows occupants in both rows to turn up to 90 degrees. Other notable equipment onboard include a dual screen-setup for the infotainment system and instrument cluster, an octagonal steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof which also houses the solar panels to boost the battery, and a bench-style front seat. The latter, unique to the EV5, takes advantage of the lack of a transmission tunnel, making it a potential 6-seater SUV. There is also a pop-out wooden table in the boot that can double up as a bench.

Kia EV5: Powertrain Details

EV5 Rear

While any technical details of the EV5 is yet to be disclosed, it is expected to be powered by the same 77 kWh battery pack that is offered in the Kia EV6. In the electric sedan, the powertrain has a claimed range of around 482 kms on a single charge. Kia will likely offer a dual-motor AWD variant alongside a single-motor 2WD entry-level model for the EV5.
