Mahindra & Mahindra, the homegrown UV maker is reportedly developing different hybrid powertrains for its products line-up. From strong hybrids to range extenders, Mahindra is planning to introduce hybrid engine-powered cars in the country. The big news is that the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e are also likely to get a hybrid powertrain.
The report claims that the Mahindra XUV 3XO will receive a strong hybrid system. Codenamed Project S226, the new XUV 3XO hybrid is expected to be introduced in the country in 2026. It is likely to get a 1.2L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a hybrid setup.
Mahindra's existing INGLO platform models could receive range extender hybrids. The Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e electric SUVs are likely to receive range extender hybrids, internally codenamed M130 and M330, respectively.
The company is currently waiting to gauge the response for the BE 6 and Mahindra XEV 9e EVs. Mahindra's decision on range extenders for XEV 9e and BE 6 will depend on the response to the existing EVs. The company has already started technical development and design work for range extenders on the INGLA platform.
It is expected that Mahindra will likely take the final call on a market launch of the range extenders in the next 6 to 8 months. These EVs will be fitted with a gasoline engine, which will act as a generator to recharge the battery and extend the electric driving range.
The homegrown UV maker will showcase the new BE 6 and XEV 9e electric SUV Coupes at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. Adding to it, the long-awaited XUV700 EV or XEV 7e and XUV 3XO EV are also likely to be unveiled at the auto event. The XEV 7e is based on Mahindra's INGLO architecture that underpins the XEV 9e and BE 6. This 3-row electric SUV will share the battery packs with the existing Born-electric Mahindra SUV Coupes.
