Maruti Fronx facelift launch expected by early 2027 To get Series Hybrid Engine, Range Extender
The Maruti Fronx has been a huge success for NEXA, but as we move into 2026, the competition is getting stiffer. In a bid to retain sales, Maruti Suzuki is readying a mid-life update for its crossover. The Maruti Fronx facelift has already been spotted testing multiple times. If reports are to be believed, the updated model will come with a strong hybrid engine and LEVEL 2 ADAS.
The biggest talking point is Maruti’s in-house developed Series Hybrid Technology. This is a Range Extender setup, where engine charges the battery and the wheels are driven by an electric motor.
- This hybrid setup will utilise the 1.2L Z12E 3-cylinder petrol engine, which acts purely as a generator to charge a battery pack. The SUV will run entirely by an electric motor.
- This provides an EV-like smooth driving experience with instant torque. Maruti Suzuki is targeting a record-breaking mileage of 30-35kmpl, making the new Fronx hybrid the most fuel-efficient SUV in India.
- This hybrid setup is less complex than the traditional hybrids, and Maruti Suzuki aims to keep the price gap between the petrol and hybrid variants narrower.
The previous test mules of the Fronx facelift was equipped with a LIDAR (light detection and ranging) unit mounted on the rear bumper. This system measures distances using rapid laser pulses and creates an accurate 3D model of the surroundings.
This suggests that the Maruti Fronx facelift will have advanced driver assistance system with features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane assist and others.
The Fronx facelift will come with cosmetic design and interior changes. It is expected to feature a redesigned front grille, an updated trim-beam LED headlamps and new lower bumper to house new sensors. The SUV will ride on new wheels, while the rear is likely to get an updated tail-lamp setup and new lower bumper. Inside the cabin, the Fronx could get new trims, a bigger touchscreen infotainment unit, ventilated front seats and an electric sunroof.
