MG Majestor and Mercedes CLA EV Set for Back-to-Back Launches

The Indian auto industry is all set to witness a high-impact week as two important cars will be launched. While Mercedes-Benz is all set to introduce its new CLA EV sedan, JSW MG Motor India will introduce the long-awaited Majestor full-size SUV. 

MG Majestor - April 27

JSW MG Motor India will reveal the price of the much-awaited Majestor full-sized SUV on April 27. It will be the official successor to the Gloster. The MG Majestor is based on a traditional, ladder-frame SUV, and will directly rival the Toyota Fortuner. 

The Majestor is a 5 metres long SUV, which is powered by a 2.0-litre, twin-turbo diesel engine that churns out 215hp of power and 478Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The Majestor features a proper 4WD system with triple differential locks, and a specialised M-Crawl mode. This model offers 10 off-road modes, and an 810mm water wading depth.

The SUV will come in 3 variants - Sharp RWD, Sharp 4WD and Savvy 4WD, and is estimated to be priced around Rs 50 lakh. In terms of features, the SUV gets a 12.3-inch infotainment unit, a fully digital driver’s display, a 12-speaker JBL sound system, 12-way powered, ventilated and massaging front seats, triple-zone automatic AC, dual wireless phone chargers, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, and LEVEL 2 ADAS. 

Mercedes CLA EV - April 24

Scheduled to be launched on April 24, the Mercedes CLA EV is arguably the brand’s most important electric debut to date. The new electric sedan is built on the new MMA (Mercedes Modular Architecture), and it is designed to eliminate range anxiety. 

The top-spec CLA 250+ is packed with an 85.5kWh battery pack, and is claimed to offer an incredibly slippery drag coefficient of 0.21 Cd. The new Mercedes CLA EV offers an impressive range of up to 792km (WLTP) in a single charge. Its 800V architecture allows for 320 kW DC fast charging, which is capable of adding 400 km of range in just 20 minutes. 

The electric sedan will be offered in two variants - CLA 200 Standard Range and CLA 250+ Long Range. Interested customers can pre-book the new CLA EV online or at authorised dealerships by paying a token amount of Rs 1.5 lakh. Key features include wireless phone charging, six 100W USB-C fast charging ports, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, 16 speaker Burmester sound system, 360 degree surround view camera and LEVEL-2 ADAS tech.
