New Kia Seltos hybrid to launch in the USA in late 2026 Next-gen Creta to receive hybrid first in India, Seltos hybrid to follow India-spec model will have different hybrid setup
We informed you earlier that Hyundai will launch the next-generation of the Creta SUV in early 2027. The SUV will share the platform and engine options with the new-gen Kia Seltos, which has been receiving positive response from buyers. The Korean duo will also introduce these SUVs with strong hybrid powertrains, and the next Creta could be the first one to receive the hybrid engine in India.
Kia has also announced the new generation Seltos will first receive a hybrid engine in the USA in late 2026. However, the India launch is expected in 2027. The global-spec model will be equipped with a refined turbocharged 1.6-litre hybrid powertrain. Transmission choices for the new Seltos hybrid will include a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic and an eAWD setup. Kia hasn’t released the full specifications of the hybrid model, but it is most likely to be the same setup offered with the Kia Niro and Hyundai Kona.

The India-spec next Hyundai Creta and Seltos are likely to be equipped with a newly developed hybrid powertrain. It is likely to use the existing 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine along with two electric motors and a small battery pack. The company would aim to achieve a fuel efficiency figures of around 25kmpl. The new Kia Seltos and Creta hybrids will rival the likes of the Maruti Grand Vitara hybrid, Toyota Hyryder hybrid, and the upcoming Renault Duster hybrid.
The next-generation Hyundai Creta will be based on the global-spec K3 platform instead of the SP2 architecture. It is claimed to be flexible enough to accommodate different body styles and engines, including petrol, diesel and hybrid. The SUV will ride on a longer wheelbase, as the Kia Seltos has a wheelbase of 2690mm. Testing of the new Creta has already been commenced, and the spy images confirm that the new SUV will grow in size and will measure around 4.5 meters in length.
The SUV will carry a more boxy, square shape instead of the roundish profile. Previous sightings reveal that the higher-spec Creta will come with 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. This suggests that the SUV will have wider track with a more planted road presence. Some of the features include electric Bose mode, adjustable headrests for all occupants, bigger dual 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and driver’s display, and a dual-zone climate control.
