Kia and Hyundai to launch compact electric SUVs in 2026 Next-gen Kia Sonet in the works Tata to launch next-gen Nexon and Scarlet sub-4 meter SUVs Mahindra to launch mini Scorpio and next-gen XUV 3XO
The sub-4 meter SUV segment is all set to witness a massive influx of new models in the coming years. From rugged “Mini Scorpio” based on Vision S concept to high-tech electric urban explorers, the next couple of years will welcome new products that aim to pack “big SUV energy” into a city-friendly footprint.
Here is your comprehensive guide to the 10 most anticipated sub-4 meter compact SUVs heading to India in the next couple of years.

The Syros EV will be the brand’s next attempt to cement its place in the fast growing electric passenger vehicle market, which is currently dominated by Tata Motors and Mahindra. While the ICE-powered model failed to appeal buyers, Kia hopes that its electric derivative will appeal to urban buyers.
Key Highlight: Kia would aim to offer a realistic range of around 400km on a single charge. It is expected to feature V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) functionalities and a premium “Lounge” seating arrangement with best-in-class headroom.

Hyundai is readying a direct rival to the Tata Nexon EV. Likely to be based on the global Inster, the SUV will carry a boxy design, high ground clearance and spacious cabin.
Key Highlight: It is likely to offer segment-leading interior space, futuristic design and a realistic range of around 400km on a single charge.

The Korean brand is planning to introduce the next-gen Bayon based sporty crossover in the Indian market. This SUV will sit below the Venue in Hyundai’s line-up, and will directly rival the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
Key Highlight: It will come as a sporty alternative to the Venue, and will carry an aggressive price tag. The small crossover is expected to get a 1.2L NA petrol and a 1.0L turbo petrol engine. CNG version is also expected to be on offer.
Maruti Suzuki is working on a new entry-level SUV, which will be positioned below the Brezza and Fronx crossover. It will directly rival the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter.
Key Highlight: It will come with multiple powertrain options, including a 1.2L Z-Series petrol engine, CNG, and hybrid.

Renault will introduce the Bridger concept based compact SUV in our market sometime in 2027. It will be positioned between the Kiger, and will carry a muscular, off-road-ready aesthetics.
Key Highlights: It will offer a spacious cabin with rugged, boxy design. Moreover, the Bridger will come with hybrid, turbo petrol and CNG powertrains.

Mahindra will introduce the Vision S based compact SUV in our market in early 2027. It is most likely to be the smallest member of the Scorpio family.
Key Highlights: Featuring rugged design with a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, high ground clearance and an upright stance.
Tata Motors is expected to launch the next-generation of the Nexon compact SUV sometime in 2027. It will be based on the heavily modified version of the existing platform. Both ICE and EV versions will be introduced.
Key Highlight: We expect the next Nexon to offer spacious cabin with more focus on high-end tech. The SUV is expected to get LEVEL 2+ ADAS tech, bigger and faster screens and segment-leading features.

Tata Motors is reportedly working on a new sub-4 meter SUV, which will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV. It will be positioned between the Nexon and the Curvv, and will come as a premium alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and others.
Key Highlight: It is rumoured to be inspired by the Tata Sierra, and is expected to carry similar design. Expect spacious and feature-loaded cabin.

Mahindra is working on a new sub-4 meter sporty SUV based on the Vision X concept. It is likely to replace the existing XUV 3XO, and could launch by 2028.
Key Highlight: Based on the new NU_IQ platform, the next-gen XUV 3XO will offer a more aerodynamic coupe-SUV silhouette. It will have the class-leading 2600mm wheelbase for the maximum legroom.
Kia is reportedly working on the next-gen Sonet compact SUV, which is likely to arrive sometime in 2027-28.
Key Highlight: It is expected to be based on the new platform that underpins the Syros and Venue, offering more safety and spacious cabin.
Honda is working on a sub-4 meter SUV, which is likely to use the Amaze platform. It is likely to be launched by 2028.
