As we are closing in on the launch of the Next-Gen Hector, MG India has shared yet another teaser revealing the front fascia of the updated SUV. Earlier in the week, the British brand had teased the car's 14-inch portrait touchscreen infotainment unit and its new interface.
The biggest and most essential change on the New-Gen Hector will be to its exterior design. Going by the teaser image, the SUVs front end will be characterised by a new Argyle-inspired Diamond Mesh Grille which merges with its signature LED DRLs. The overall silhouette will remain the same, but the vehicle will feature sharper lines and creases giving it an overall sporty outlook. Other changes to the exterior include a reworked bumper, more pronounced air dam, a new headlamp and tail lamp housing.
On the inside, the highlight of the cabin remains the new 14-inch HD portrait touchscreen infotainment system, the largest in the country upon arrival. The new unit will get a new easy-to-use interface with considerably large bezels along with haptic buttons on the lower panel. According to the carmaker, the new Hector’s interior will encompass the ‘Symphony of Luxury’ philosophy which will offer a cinematic and immersive experience. Along with this the new aircon vents, tweaked dashboard design, squared start-stop button and a new centre console will definitely give the interiors a refreshed appeal.
In terms of safety, we can expect the four-wheeler to come equipped with Level 2 ADAS making it a better package than its sibling the MG Astor. The system will offer features like blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control and rear cross-traffic alert among others.
It will demand a significant increase in price compared to the current model. We expect the new model to come at a premium of Rs 1 to Rs 1.5 lakh, bringing the (ex-showroom price) between Rs 16 lakh and Rs 22 lakh. It is believed that the new model will be limited to the top trims in order to prevent variant cannibalization. The new SUV is set for a launch by the end of 2022.
The MG Hector will continue to use the same set of powertrain options as before, but we can expect the British carmaker to add an automatic transmission to its diesel variant. In terms of market positioning, MG will present the new-gen model as a premium product with more features and will be placed on the top of the current gen Hector line-up.
