Tata Motors is preparing multiple new SUVs including the Sierra and Avinya based SUV and Sportback, which will be launched in the next couple of years. Adding to it, Tata is preparing the facelifted versions and EV derivatives of existing models including Altroz facelift and Harrier EV. The hugely popular Tata Nexon SUV will also enter the next generation, as media reports suggest that launch could happen in 2027.
First launched in September 2017, the Tata Nexon has been a huge hit for the homegrown automaker. The company manages to sell over 10,000 units per month on a consistence basis. The SUV received two comprehensive updates in 2020 and 2023. The first generation model will complete a decade in 2027.
It was speculated that the next-gen Tata cars will use new platform. However, the report suggest that Tata will utilize the existing X1 platform. The platform will be heavily upgraded to receive massive structural updates. Adding to it, the SUV will receive significant design and interior changes in line with newer Tata models.
The next-gen Tata Nexon is most likely to be offered with the petrol and CNG fuel options. It is early to comment whether Tata will introduce the diesel powered Nexon in our market. The existing model is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine, which will need huge changes to meet the upcoming BS7 emission norms. This will certainly increase the production cost.
It is also expected that Tata will introduce the next-gen Nexon EV around the same time. Tata Motors has used the existing ICE platform with some modification to produce the electric Nexon. However, the next-gen Tata Nexon EV is likely to be based on the Acti.ev architecture that underpins the Punch EV and the Curvv.ev.
