Next-gen Fortuner likely to be based on TNGA-F platform Hyryder 7-seater Testing Begins
Japanese automaker, Toyota is preparing two new 7-seater SUVs for the Indian market. The company will introduce the new Hyryder 7-seater SUV and the next-gen Fortuner. In fact, testing of the Toyota Hyryder 7-seater SUV has already been started, and it is expected to be launched before the end of this year.
The new-gen Hilux lifestyle pick-up has already been revealed, and is expected to be introduced in our market in 2026. It is reported that the next-gen Fortuner is also under development and is expected to make global debut in 2027. The next-gen Toyota Fortuner is expected to be launched in the Indian market in 2027. Adding to it, the Japanese automaker is planning to introduce the Land Cruiser FJ lifestyle off-road SUV, which has recently been launched in the home market.
The SUV has been caught testing multiple times on the Indian roads. It will be based on the modified Suzuki Global-C platform, which will also underpin the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The new SUV will take on the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO. It is expected to be based on the longer wheelbase, and the spy images reveal the extended body and rear overhangs to accommodate third-row of seats.
The 7-seater Hyryder is likely to be equipped with more features than the 5-seater model, which will soon receive a mid-life update. It will come with high-end features like LEVEL 2 ADAS, powered tailgate, branded sound system and others. The three-row SUV is likely to be offered with the 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol and 1.5L strong hybrid powertrains. Moreover, the SUV will also receive an AWD drivetrain.
The next-gen Toyota Fortuner is rumoured to be based on the GA-F or TNGA-F platform that underpins the Land Cruiser 300 and Prado. This will make it significantly expensive over the current model, which is already priced over Rs 50 lakh on-road. Toyota could also utilise the existing platform, as the new-gen Hilux based on the same IMV ladder-frame chassis. The next-gen Fortuner is most likely to share design with the Tacoma pick-up and the 4Runner.
The SUV is expected to be offered with a new 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo diesel engine with an integrated starter generator. This engine is capable of producing 201bhp and 500Nm of torque, while the mild-hybrid unit adds another 14bhp and 64Nm. It is expected that the next-gen Fortuner could get a 2.4-litre hybrid turbo petrol engine, which powers few global Lexus and Toyota models.
