Next Tata EV For India – Sierra EV With AWD & 500km+ Range

Tata Sierra EV likely to get AWD and offer range over 500km. The EV might feature advanced integrated dual-motor IDU.

Tata Motors recently launched the Tiago and Tiago EV facelifts at starting prices of Rs 4.69 lakh and Rs 6.99 lakh, respectively (all, ex-showroom). Both hatchbacks come with noticeable cosmetic and feature upgrades, while continuing to offer the same powertrain options. Following these launches, the indigenous automaker is now gearing up to introduce yet another EV – the Tata Sierra EV. While its official launch timeline is yet to be announced, the model is expected to hit showrooms in June or July, 2026.

Drivetrains & IDU

The powertrain specifications of the Tata Sierra EV are yet to be revealed. However, Tata Motors has confirmed that the electric SUV will be available with both RWD (rear-wheel drive) and AWD (all-wheel drive) systems. The SUV might feature a front-mounted Integrated Drive Unit (IDU) similar to the Tata Punch EV.

An IDU system usually includes several components into a single unit, including an electric motor for generating power, reduction gearbox, an inverter converting DC power from battery into AC power for the motor and a differential. By integrating multiple components, it reduces energy loss and manufacturing cost while also improving NVH levels.

Expected Battery Options & Range

According to reports, the Sierra EV could be offered with three powertrain configurations sourced from the Tata Harrier EV, including 65kWh RWD, 75kWH RWD and 75kWH AWD dual-motor setups. It’s driving range is expected to be over 500km on a full charge. The EV might be offered with both V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) charging capabilities.

Design & Features

Tata Sierra EV Front Profile

Earlier this year, Tata Motors released teaser images of the Sierra EV revealing several design details. The electric SUV will feature a closed-off nose in body-coloured finish and a slightly revised front bumper.

Similar to its ICE counterpart, the EV is likely to offer features such as a large 12.3-inch central touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.5-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch passenger screen, powered and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a premium audio system and more.
