Renault India to launch three hybrid SUVs by 2027. New platforms support ICE, EV, hybrid and CNG powertrains.
Renault recently announced its product offensive FutuREady mid-term global plan, which includes seven new models and two new architectures for India. These new platforms, compatible with multiple powertrains (including ICE, electric, hybrid and CNG), will enable the carmaker to tap the growing SUV segment. In 2026-27, the French automaker will introduce three hybrid SUVs in India, namely, the Renault Duster hybrid, Renault Boreal (7-seater Duster) and Renault Bridger.
The Renault Duster hybrid is set to launch by 2026 Diwali. The SUV will feature the most powerful hybrid powertrain in its segment, consisting of a 1,789cc, four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors (20bhp and 49bhp) and a 1.4kWh battery pack. This setup, with a multi-mode automatic gearbox, is claimed to offer a maximum power of 160bhp and 172Nm of torque.

Interestingly, the Renault Duster hybrid has been sold for 2026 even before its official price announcement, reflecting strong demand among buyers. Bookings for the hybrid version are currently on hold.
The Renault Boreal will essentially be the 7-seater version of the Duster, and could be introduced under a different nameplate in India. It will share the platform, design elements, features, components and powertrains with the 5-seater Duster. This means, it will feature the same 1.8L petrol hybrid powertrain. Compared to the Duster, the Boreal will be longer and more spacious, accommodating a third-row of seats. To enhance its value proposition, Renault might equip it with additional features.
The Renault Bridger will be a rugged sub-4 metre SUV from the French automaker in India, arriving in 2027. Similar to the Duster and Boreal, it will underpin the RGMP (Renault Global Modular Platform), which supports multiple body styles and powertrains. While its official details are still under the wraps, the new Renault subcompact SUV is expected to be offered with petrol, hybrid and electric powertrain options. A CNG variant could also join the lineup.
