Tata Motors has re-entered the South African passenger vehicle market with 4 made-in-India products. The company introduced the popular Harrier, Curvv SUV Coupe, Punch micro-SUV and Tiago hatchback at the launch event, held at the Galleria in Sandton, Johannesburg.
Tata Motors re-entered the South African market in alliance with Motus Holdings, which has expertise in vehicle importation, nationwide distribution, and comprehensive aftersales support. Initially, the new range of Tata cars will be sold through 40 dealerships. The alliance aims to increase the dealerships to 60 by 2026.
Commenting on the launch, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said, “Our return to South Africa marks a significant milestone in Tata Motors’ global journey. Measuring 4.6 meters in length, the Tata Harrier gets a 2.0-litre Kryotec turbocharged diesel engine that produces 170PS and 350Nm of torque. In terms of features, the SUV gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six airbags, ESP, corner stability control and LEVEL 2 ADAS tech. The 5-seater premium SUV also gets a voice-enabled dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, a gesture-controlled power tailgate, and terrain response modes.
The Tata Curvv SUV Coupe is powered by a 1.2L Revotron turbocharged petrol engine that produces 118bhp and 170Nm of torque, and is paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCA. In terms of features, the SUV Coupe gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a fully digital instrument console, customisable mood lighting, six airbags, ESP and others.
This sub-4 meter SUV is packed with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 87bhp and 115Nm of torque. The small SUV gets a 10.5-inch touchscreen display, a wide-opening 90 degree doors, ESP, corner stability control and dual airbags.
It is the brand’s entry-level model, which gets the 1.2L NA petrol engine producing 84bhp and 113Nm of torque, and is paired to either a 5-speed MT or AMT. The Tata Tiago is equipped with features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital driver’s display, HD reverse camera, cooled glove box and others. For safety and security, the hatch gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD and corner stability control as standard.
