India’s First 7-Seater Tata EV - Safari EV Details Revealed

Tata Safari EV - India’s first 7-seater electric SUV. Dual-motor AWD available on higher trims with long range. Launch expected during Diwali 2026 at Rs 23-30 lakh.

Tata Motors is getting ready to shake up the electric SUV segment with the Safari EV, India’s first fully electric 7-seater SUV. The company plans to launch it before the end of FY27, likely during Diwali 2026. This SUV will go head-to-head with the Mahindra XEV 9S in the premium family EV space.

Platform and Power

The Safari EV is built on Tata’s Acti.ev+ platform, the same one used for the Harrier EV. This allows for all-wheel drive, a flat floor, and enough space for the third-row seats.

It will likely come with two battery options: a 65 kWh pack for the base variants and a 75 kWh pack for higher trims. Tata claims the SUV will deliver a range of around 600 km (MIDC), with a realistic driving range of 450-500 km. The base model will be rear-wheel drive, while the top-spec variant may get dual-motor all-wheel drive with special Off-Road and Snow modes.

Design and Looks

The Safari EV keeps the familiar shape of the ICE Safari but adds EV-specific touches. The front will feature a full-width LED DRL strip with welcome and goodbye animations, a closed parametric grille, 19-inch aerodynamic wheels, and Electric Blue .ev badging.

Interior and Features

Inside, the Safari EV is expected to be modern and comfortable. It could get a 12.3-inch floating touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, and a four-spoke backlit steering wheel.

Other features may include 540-degree cameras, Level 2 ADAS, front parking sensors, electrically adjustable seats, dual-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. It will support Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) functions. Buyers can choose between 7-seat and 6-seat layouts, with the 6-seater having captain seats in the second row, and higher trims may get ventilated second-row seats.

Launch and Price

The Safari EV is expected to launch around Diwali 2026, with prices starting at roughly Rs 23 lakh for the base variant and going up to Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top model.
