Tata Motors is facing heavy competition from the likes of Hyundai and Mahindra. The company's EV sales are in decline, as its market share in the electric segment declined by a good 25%. In order to increase sales, Tata Motors is giving heavy discounts on the new Curvv EV and the Nexon EV. However, Tata Motors has some winning upcoming products which could turn the table, and Tata Sierra is one of them.
The Tata Sierra nameplate enjoys a cult fan base among Indian car buyers. Tata will be hoping to capitalize on the sentiment by introducing the new gen Sierra SUV. What's good about the new model is that it retains the original look and feel combined with modern tech and powertrains. For people not in the know, Tata had showcased the closer to production Sierra at the Global Mobility Auto Expo 2025.
It is confirmed that the new Tata Sierra will come with petrol and diesel fuel options. Moreover, the EV variant will also arrive at the same time. Tata Motors has confirmed that the Sierra SUV will be launched in the country this year, most probably around Diwali. In fact, testing of the new Sierra has already been started on the Indian roads.
The new Tata Sierra will measure around 4.3 meters in length, which is similar to the other mid-sized SUVs including Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. With butch presence and boxy silhouette, the new Sierra could attract more SUV lovers.
The new Sierra will mark the debut of Tata's new 1.5-litre turbo petrol GDI engine that is capable of producing 170 PS and 280Nm of torque. It will likely use the same 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that powers the Harrier and Safari. This engine produces 170bhp and 350Nm of torque. Transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed DCA with petrol and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic with diesel.
Tata Motors would aim to price the new Sierra competitively. It is likely to come as a premium alternative to the likes of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and others in the category. We expect the new Sierra to cost somewhere between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 22 lakh.
