Japanese automaker, Toyota is preparing a wide range of new SUVs for the Indian market. The company will introduce 4 new 3-row SUVs, which will be placed in different segments. A new 7-seater SUV based on the Hyryder will arrive before the end of next financial year. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus.
The Global-C platform will be modified to accommodate a longer wheelbase SUV, which will have an extended length to accommodate third-row. The brand will also utilize Hyryder's boot to improve the space in the third-row. It is likely to be offered with the 1.5L K15 petrol mild hybrid and 1.5L TNGA strong hybrid engine. The strong hybrid model will allow Toyota to position the 3-row Hyryder as the most fuel efficient 7-seater SUV in India.
The company will launch the new Land Cruiser Prado in the country before the end of this year. Toyota is currently selling the Land Cruiser 300, which is also the brand's flagship model in India. The LC 250 or Land Cruiser Prado will sit below the LC 300 and will rival the Land Rover Discovery, Mercedes-Benz GLC and the Audi Q5.
Likely to be priced around Rs 1.5 crore, the new LC 250 will come as a CBU model. The SUV comes with new design, upgraded interior and new powertrain options. Features list include a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital instrument console, multi-zone climate control, powered front seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, etc.
It will be powered by a 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine with a mild-hybrid setup. The new mild-hybrid diesel engine is capable of producing 200bhp and 500Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to all wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Toyota is also working on the next-gen Fortuner SUV, which is rumoured to be launched sometime in 2026. The next-gen Fortuner will be based on the TNGA-F platform that also underpins the Land Cruiser. It will have a more premium cabin and new design highlights. Moreover, the SUV will come with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which will also power the new-gen Toyota sports cars, including the Celica and MR2.
The next-gen Fortuner will also receive a diesel engine with a mild hybrid setup. It will be equipped with ADAS tech, vehicle stability control, a hydraulic steering system and a panoramic sunroof.
MG Hector petrol variants now E20 fuel compatible; 2025 model launched with no price hike, meeting new emission norms and supporting sustainable mobility.
