Volkswagen has announced the highly anticipated India launch of the Golf GTI. The enthusiast hot hatch favourite will be introduced in the second quarter of 2025 with April as the month of release. Volkswagen will bring the Golf GTI to India as a completely built unit (CBU), and the vehicle will only come in 250 units for the Indian market. This makes it a low release and an exhilarating reveal for car enthusiasts.
Volkswagen Golf GTI has also kept its classic sporty appearance, which has been popular everywhere in the globe. The vehicle comes equipped with matrix-LED headlights at the front, making it more visible, and 'GTI' logo embossed in front grille. Front bumper is sporty and aggressive with honeycomb mesh pattern, making the vehicle strong. The vehicle has a diffuser with sporty appearance and twin exhausts at the rear, which reflect its performance-centric features.
The GTI Golf has 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels as a standard option, though 19-inch wheels are available as an option on the assumption that still more visual drama can be provided. Overall appearance of this hot hatch is neat in how it balances sporting detail with minimalist, modern look.
Inside the Golf GTI, the inside still exudes the sporty environment with an all-black interior trim. The seats are sport bucket-seats that provide comfort and support when driving under performance conditions. The 'GTI' emblem is also present on the steering wheel, and metallic pedals are also found inside the car as well, adding even more to the sporty environment inside.
Among the interior amenities are the 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Smartphone connectivity in the infotainment system is easy to plug into the phone. It also comes with automatic climate control and wireless charging pad for convenience. Ambient lighting in the cabin gives the Golf GTI a modern, high-tech look that is akin to the driving experience as a whole.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI has a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The car has power of 245 bhp and 370 Nm of torque, which makes the vehicle highly powerful. The engine comes with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and drives the front wheels of the car. The duo propels the Golf GTI from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and 250 km/h as top speed.
Its progressive steering system also enhances the car's driving performance with a more responsive drive feel. It also includes an electronically controlled front-axle differential lock for increased traction while cornering quite sharply. Its adaptive suspension as an optional extra adds further comfort and control, which is well suited for urban driving or high-speed/mountain driving for high-performance driving.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI will be priced at approximately Rs. 50 lakh (ex-showroom) when it arrives in India. It's therefore a premium offering in the hot hatch segment. It'll be competing with other performance cars, but most prominently among them is the Mini Cooper S, which employs the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and will be priced almost Rs. 44.90 lakh.
As the Golf GTI will be brought as a completely built unit (CBU), the vehicle will make its way into India in limited numbers only. Only 250 units of the car will be imported by Volkswagen with the first lot. Pre-launch bookings of the hot hatch have already started at some Volkswagen dealerships. As it will be in limited numbers, the Golf GTI will definitely make a big splash among automobile enthusiasts who are searching for a sporty and eccentric car.
