The Toyota Fortuner has been the top-seller in the full-size SUV segment in India. The exit of Ford Endeavour from India has further cemented Fortuner’s position, as it has not faced any serious challenge from any of the automakers. However, things are set to change as several key rivals are set to launch in the coming years. While Volkswagen will launch the Tayron, the long-awaited MG Majestor is inching closer to its launch. These two SUVs will aim to challenge the dominance of the Fortuner with more modern features and premium styling.

It is essentially the 7-seater version of the Tiguan R-Line, and is set to go on sale in our market towards the fag end of this year. In the global markets, the SUV is available with 3 engine choices - a 1.5L turbo petrol, a 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.0L turbo diesel. The India-spec model is likely to get a 2.0L turbo petrol engine that produces 204PS and 320Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed DCT. It comes with a standard AWD set-up.
It is reported that the Volkswagen could assemble the Tayron in India. We expect the new SUV to cost somewhere around Rs 50-55 lakh. Both Fortuner and Tayron measures 4.8 meters in length; however, the Volkswagen’s SUV has a slightly longer wheelbase.
The overall styling of the Tayron is similar to the 5-seater Tiguan R-Line. It gets dual-pod projector LED headlights connected via a sleek light bar, and an aggressive bumper that houses huge grille with diamond-shaped air intake channels. It is likely to get 19-inch dual-tone alloys.
In terms of features, the SUV gets a 15-inch floating infotainment unit, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, ambient lighting, heads-up display, a panoramic sunroof, an 8-speaker sound system, powered front seats with massage function, ventilation and lumbar support, and 3-zone auto AC. It gets 9 airbags as standard, a 360-degree surround view camera with blind spot monitoring, LEVEL 2 ADAS and others. Also See - Tata Punch Facelift 2025 - Top Features to Look Out For

MG Motor India had showcased the Majestor full-sized SUV at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. Likely to be retailed through MG SELECT dealerships, the new full-size SUV will be sold alongside the familiar Gloster. The MG Majestor is expected to be launched during festive season, before Diwali.
In terms of styling, the full-size Majestor SUV gets an aggressive front fascia. It comes with a larger front grille, flanked by newly styled vertically stacked LED headlamps and stylish DRLs, and a pronounced bumper. The SUV gets an aggressive rear bumper, dual exhaust tips and newly styled alloy wheels.
The SUV gets a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats, a 360-degree surround view camera, ventilated front and second-row seats and LEVEL 2 ADAS. The full-size SUV is expected to be powered by the same 2.0L twin-turbo diesel engine that powers the MG Gloster. This engine produces 218bhp of power and 480Nm of torque. It is likely to get the on-demand four-wheel drive with selectable drive modes. An 8-speed automatic gearbox comes as standard.
