It is no secret that Maruti Suzuki is preparing the Fronx facelift, which is likely to arrive in early 2026. This time around, the 2026 Maruti Fronx will come with a strong hybrid engine. In fact, testing of the hybrid model has already been commenced.
The spotted Maruti Fronx hybrid was completely uncovered, proudly showing a ‘hybrid’ badge. It will come with a newly-developed series hybrid engine, also known as range extenders. The new hybrid system will be offered on mass-market hybrid cars, including Fronx, Swift, Baleno, and the upcoming SPACIA based sub-4 meter MPV.
The spotted model also had LIDAR sensors, which is usually done to map ADAS systems. This also confirms that the Fronx facelift will come with a LEVEL 2 ADAS system, making it the first sub-4 meter Maruti to offer ADAS in India. The SUV will have advanced driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, auto high beam and others.
The new in-house developed hybrid engine will debut in the Maruti Fronx facelift. It will be a series hybrid engine, which is cost effective compared to parallel and series-parallel systems. In the series hybrid system, the petrol engine works as a generator or range extender.
Maruti Suzuki will utilise the new 1.2-litre, Z-series, 3-cylinder NA petrol engine for the new hybrid system. The engine will produce electricity to power an electric motor that drives the wheels. The electric motor draws power from either a battery pack or from a generator run by the petrol engine.
The Fronx facelift will be the most fuel efficient SUV in the category. If reports are to be believed, the Maruti Fronx hybrid could offer a certified fuel economy of over 35kmpl.
